I just had the same thought. They always like to blame the victim she could have done this and this etc but she did everything! Literally everything to alert authorities what was happening to her. @@Cinia18 one thing she should never have done is jump in bed with a guy she didn't know... Much less let him take nude pics of her. A guy taking nude pics never has your best interests in mind. I'm surprised a Christian girl who was no longer a teenager jumped into things so quickly, especially with a guy she didnt vet properly. So many places this could have been nipped in the bud. For one thing NEVER date bouncers--they are all prone to violence. As is every guy who's into muscle building. I will tell you what Lauren should have done. She should have vetted and then dated one of her appropriate peers from freshman orientation. But she dismissed and friend zoned top tier university men for being too nice too studious too boring too proper. Instead she seeks out a thug townie at a low class bar. Immediately brings the miscreant on campus and has sex with him. The university should have expelled her and sent her back to her parents for home training. She not only violated the honor code but her immoral behavior actually put the safety of the good girls on campus at risk .

When there’s another agency on the investigation, the complacent in denial department will usually be held accountable and can’t blow it off. And that's why we need parity in police departments. We need different views from different sides of reality, because sadly, women experience this kind of behaviour from predators way too often, and It's more likely to find empathy from a fellow woman. The "lady" in charge of the campus made me sick to my stomach; a woman siding with the officers after a girl has been murdered in her campus... repulsive, I hope she had the life she deserved. 🤬 And those police officers, diminishing a clear case of harassment and stalking, perpetuated by a sex offender ON PAROLE, what a bunch of mediocre, useless pieces of 💩.

Many years ago, as a freshman in HS, this guy wouldn’t accept “no,” for me to go out with him. He got frustrated after many times me ignoring him, to where he decided to set my car on fire. My cat lived, but was deformed the rest of its life. The guy got no trouble, because there’s no proof he is the one who set my car on fire. And this was in the 90’s, before cameras around homes. There is nothing more enraging than to be violated to any degree, and the justice system doesn’t do sh!t, doesn’t seem to care, and the perps get away with it. I felt homicidal, in all honesty.

Thanks for doing this show and for showing support for victims of stalking. 30 yrs ago, i was relentlessly stalked by a man i had been in a relationship with and then broken off due to his abusive, controlling behavior. I reached out to police many times and it was no help. Many times i would be asked what i had done to 'encourage' his behavior or that it was a couples 'spat' and it would work itself out. He eventually broke into my apartment and attempted to murder me. I'm alive today because of a downstairs neighbor who heard what was going on and came in and got him off of me and beat him up and threw him out of the building. I didnt even bother to report that incident to police since it was as traumatizing dealing with them as it was the stalker. I ended up moving and he found me again. Eventually, after some years, the situation ended but without any help from authorities. I've been in therapy for ptsd since then and I'm doing better now, but it leaves scars. I'm lucky i survived the situation. It is chilling to see that things have not changed much over the years in how police completely fail to support stalking victims. My heart goes out to Lauren and her family. May you find peace.

My husband was abusive and when I tried to leave him and he stalked me the police said there was nothing they could do unless he physically hurt me. I was so shocked that he could continue his stalking 24/7 but unless he killed me there was nothing that could be done. I had to move across State to hide out for a year with my two small children. I 💯 believe this is why I’m alive today. It allowed enough time for him to get arrested on other felony drug charges and then he moved out of State once released. This is why knowing the law and protecting yourself is so important as the cops will never help you. Its been twenty years and I still have PTSD. I’ll also never be with another man for as long I live. My heart goes out to this poor girls family. I can’t even imagine the pain.

I am surprised that Lauren's parents did not take their daughter home when they found out about Shaun's background.

What for? She would have just found a more local thug. The next one might have killed her parents too.

So incredibly sad that she tried her best to get help. The fact that they did nothing is so frustrating and heartbreaking. It could’ve been prevented. Also that police officer that shared those images is SICK. Prayers to her family. So heartbreaking. 🥺💖

i feel so sorry for this beautiful girl and her family. it breaks my heart how her cries for help went unanswered. this could’ve been prevented. it made me cry thinking that i can kinda relate to her story. she shouldn’t have lost her life. i hope she’s resting in peace. many prayers for her and her family to heal and prosper.

i feel like covid saved me from a situation like this somewhat because my stalker could only stalk me digitally due to our class being on zoom, but that didn’t stop him trying to find out what classes i would take next/where i was. I’m still terrified of what he would’ve done if we had been in class together in person.

This event and story did have a nation wide effect, I was an RA (resident advisor in student housing) for 3 years in NYC and our protocol was extremely strict for guests because of this event. We learned about the signs of stalking in student relationships and how to help students learn what healthy relationships look like and how to protect students from stalking through student housing. Im so happy Laurens story is being told on and even though law enforcement was a huge let down in this case and could have prevented the outcome, her case has made a difference in other students safety.

probably the first case that PHYSICALLY FRUSTRATED me, gosh those cops don't deserve their job if they can't do the ONE thing they're assigned to do.

The worst part of this for me is that the campus “police officer” that was supposed to be helping her was further victimizing her by SHOWING HER EXPLICIT PHOTOS TO HIS COLLEAGUES. That shows you how serious they were taking her. This is SUCH a sad case. Lauren deserved better from a LOT of people.

This is terrible. A little over a year ago I was blackmailed and the police chose to do nothing, it sucks that sometimes we have to take matters into our own hands but unlike Lauren, some of us dont get so lucky
