Having a FB discussion on the materialism of my race (I am Black so I am focusing on Black). Someone said that if a person can afford an expensive car then they should buy it and after going back and forth I was lead to this song which said it much better than I tried to. The appearance of success dominates our neighborhoods and it inhibits our ability to achieve TRUE success and financial independence. Cars are pushed but drastically decrease in value very quickly until not only did you pay $10-15k more than the car is worth if you financed it, it is only worth that much or less when you want to trade it in 4 years later. The world is a hustle and most don't get it.

I remember seeing Nas in an interview nd the interviewer asked him why he thought Lauryn disappeared from the scene for so long, nd he seem to think for a minute then he said, "she refused to sell her soul", nd this was way b4 everybody in the music industry was accused of being down with secret societies

Lauryn Hill didn't go crazy. The music industry just wanted to effectively shut her up. This girl sang what she was about. The industry doesn't want this kind of music to be mainstream.

Many announced her as being crazy, only because the media and music industry said so, because she refuse to sell her soul. She walked away from everything and that took soul!!!

This song ravages my reality! After one thousand listens, I'm only beginning to move beyond the lulling, melodic, pulsating beat that underlays such truthful and revealing claims of a woman--experienced, knowledgeable, prophetic, and talented beyond comprehension. Lauryn is definitely THE music icon of my generation.

Lauryn is SOOOOO talented on every dimension of hip hop. Such a well rounded and emotional singer. She'll make you laugh, cry, be sad for what she addresses, and you feel her happiness. And her lyrics are so unbelievably well written and she can rap better than many artists today! What versatility!

Lauryn has this presence that is undeniably real. When she speaks, you know it's the truth. Whether it's her truth or the truth of the world. I've always appreciated that about her. She is sooooo amazing!

LAuryn's music helped me through alot in my youth. Wish she could help me now. Life took her on another journey. Once you know the truth you will do what you have to do to protect your offspring. She took flight in order to fight.

Just came across this track... absolutely lost for words. Ms Hill is above so many levels in this business, hence her reclusiveness. She is definitely our Nina Simone. I love her creativity, her artistry, her realness, her soul, her spirit. I'm waiting patiently for your return to us. Take your time Ms Hill, take your time. blessings
