Hey hey Patrick! Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting! I know, I should have put a text in there why I decided to leave out the outdoor ambient. The reason I did it is because the outdoor ambient is not a consistent sound across each mic test. For example, the Olympus test there were birds that flew in and chirped loudly while there rest didn't content with it. So I decided to leave it out and let the "Fan ON" ambient be the consistent test so that you can hear how each mic picks up that noise that's consistent. Sorry about that, next time I'll leave a title card if I negate a test that I performed. I just wanted to make sure you heard enough of me speaking before I switched to the next mic. Hope this makes sense. Thanks again for stopping by! Stay safe, healthy, and I’ll see you in the next one!

I would invest in a better and humidity/waterproof mic, but there are really no reviews with wireless go II and compatibility (signal level, supply voltage) is a big question. I need something that I can also use with a G4 transmitter if I rent it. The B3, MKE2, W lav Pro, TR50, Cos11D, DPA4060 are on my list of candidates. Does anyone have good/bad experience with these?

I own that Sony and there's two odd things about it. First - it's a stereo mic, so there's always a LEFT and a RIGHT channel to consider, which can be an issue if your subject turns his head while he talks (which almost everyone does). The second thing is that it has a silver metal body which picks up a ton of noise from clothing, etc. Even so it's a great value and has the absolute best audio gain of any lavalier I've ever used.

Yet again an awesome video! The sound straight from some of the mics are good, and I am sure a little bit of EQ will also help. Perhaps next time you test lav mics you can test clothing rustle sound, and outdoor wind noise - which really varies from mic to mic. Your videos are great!

Hey hey Jeff! Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting! The clothing tests I can definitely standardize. Hey hey Vegas Must Try! Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting! Glad you're enjoy the channels theme! The main reason I don't perform these tests in an area with people is because it's hard to replicate the ambient noise exactly the same way which could give inconsistent results. Since this video I have tried other options to test ambient noise rejection, but at the end of the day lav mics are omni directional so it will pick up noise everywhere. Its ultimately up to the transmitters auto gain algorithm characteristics that will dictate how much it understands is ambient noise during the quite parts. Hope this makes sense! @TLDR_filmmaker
3 жыл бұрын
Hey hey OCFLAboi407! Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting! I hear ya, the reason I did this was because I had the section afterwards where you can hear the fan noise only between the five 5 mics. I figured this was the best way to let you hear how the fan noise changes between each mic quickly. If I talk inbetween each fan noise part, your ear won't be able to discern which fan noise was actually lower, so thus why I broke it apart into sections. Now the outdoor silence I took out completely and definitely forgot to clarify why. It's because the outdoor test wasn't fair with cars and birds coming when they pleased. I couldn't make it objective with those variables like the fan. Thanks again for stopping by! Stay safe, healthy, and I’ll see you in the next one!

The Olympus camera and RX levels were the same as the others, Not because I was keeping it consistent across the board, but because this video was not meant to be a lav test. So even though I was hitting the same Signal range as the others, it does have a higher noise floor. But, I honestly don't think it's a big deal cause it's a regular hiss sound that mixes with general ambience noises. I actually use that lav for awhile with my original RODE GO and never felt the noise floor was a bother. I actually didn't realize it was there until this test against other higher end mics.

Hey! I wanted to know: The light in this video is awesome - I currently have the Sony 6400. I would love to get my lighting to consistently look like this. I've looked on your channel and see that you have a lighting tutorial from awhile back. I would like to know how to get my lighting like you have in this video and I'm willing to purchase whatever lights (I have a really good and big ring light) or lenses to make that happen. I have a sound panel background. Tips? Or is that video still relevant to THIS type of lighting? Great video also by the way. I watch it in full and left a like! 💯
@TLDR_filmmaker
3 жыл бұрын
Hey hey Randy! Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question! This type of lighting could potentially be achieved with your ring light depending on how large it is and how close you can get it to your face at the upward angle that I talk about in the beginners youtube setup tutorial video. You're going to want to set that ring light as if it's a off angle halo. Because of the way the ring light works with its flood like quality and that its close to your head and just out of frame, you'll get a similar lighting look, not quite the same, but similar enough. I'm talking probably a 20" ring light approx. If it doesn't work to your liking, then this is what I'm using: Godox SL60: kzitem.info/news/bejne/lJqovImQbn6Ig34 Laofas 47": kzitem.info/news/bejne/zIFu0oeZpaWha3Y Godox CL10: kzitem.info/news/bejne/02iM2JdspGOKmG0 Then use your ring light as a rim/hair light, and us a C-Stand to hold up that large softbox (only one layer of diffusion, no inner diffusion, you can if you want) I'm filming wide open on my lens at f/2.8, full frame at about ISO 160. You can make your adjustments as needed on the A6400. This is the kit for my specific shot of just a medium. If you are trying to go wider the look may vary as you'll need to move the light further away to get it out of the shot. Thats the key point for softer lighting, keep a super large source as close as you can to the subject. Hope this helps! Thanks again for stopping by! Thank you for a great revue, this was really helpful, I use the Rode LG for fitness and dance videos. They tend to break often in the cable because of the heavy use, but that's to be expected as they're not really built for what I'm doing. But I have to say you're right and have confirmed what I already know. Even with the heavy use, they're actually the best mics for what I'm doing. 🙏🙏🙏🙏

another great video! I'd be interested in seeing some comparisons of some different cardioid lav mics and how well they do with background noise rejection, like if there's dialog going on, off to the side. That's one of my biggest challenges as I do not have a "studio space" as a fulltime RVer. Finding a lav that picks up my voice very well, yet diminishes household noise/conversation would be ideal; Even the Rode Wireless Go II picks up my wife clear as day at 10 feet, which makes post super time consuming trying to filter out unwanted sounds. a greater rejection would make this process MUCH easier for me (and likely many others)

Great video as always mate! Just wondering, what do you think about using some of the cheapest Amazon options for lavs with the Rode Go II? Like the PowerDeWise, Purple Panda or Boya?
@TLDR_filmmaker
3 жыл бұрын
Hey hey again Sydney Dance Vids! Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question! My general thoughts on those cheaper options is that they are primarily made for cellphones with a TRRS plug and come with a TRS adaptor (wireless audio packs, camera). Because of that you now have this very long adaptor sticking out of your audio pack and can be snapped off more easily. So I personally do not recommend those options for most filmmakers that are only going to use DSLR and traditional wireless audio packs. Thanks again for stopping by! hello bro, in order to get the best voice, you set the gain in RX to low, medium or high? and what about the volume on the camera?
@TLDR_filmmaker
3 жыл бұрын
Hey hey Budiono! Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question! This is completely dependent on your mic setup and your voice volume. Also every camera does not handle settings the same I I recently found out with Sony cameras vs Panasonic Cameras SONY AUDIO FIX: kzitem.info/news/bejne/o56VzZp7rHh4p3Y So while I can give you a blanket solution except for that you need to try out all combinations to figure out what your camera actually is. If you're Panasonic, go ahead and put the camera mic at the lowest setting and then use RODE Output to compensate. If you're on Sony, depending on which camera you got +1 through +5 is the good spot. I don't know about other camera brands if you're not using either of these two. As for your camera audio level -12db is the standard to try and stay in for editing later, you can push it to -6 in Panasonics case, not so much Sony. This is all I can say of how I approach my audio settings now. Hope this helps! Thanks again for stopping by! Stay safe, healthy, and I’ll see you in the next one!

Hey hey Shay! Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting! Glad this video was helpful! Hey your video convinced me to get my Rode Wiresless go 2 and my Rode Lavalier Go. Is there a fix for this. I don't want to record with binural sound or anything just mono.
@TLDR_filmmaker
2 жыл бұрын
Hey hey Street Inspired! Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting! Hmm, if the RODE GO Receiver is set to "mono" instead of "stereo" then it should be recording out of both sides all the time. The only thing I can think of is to ensure that both the Lav and the cable going into your camera is firmly pressed in so that it doesn't shift inside the port. Sometimes it may seem its in, but you will really want to press it in. If you are still having the same problem, here is my thoughts on what it could be. 1) defective unit 2) The cable that goes from the RX to the camera has a internal fray inside. The easiest way to test this is if you have another regular AUX cable lying around somewhere. Use that cable instead and see if you still have the same problem. If you don't, then its the cable. If you still have the same problem, it's a defect of the receiver. Hope this helps. Thanks again for stopping by! Stay safe, healthy, and I’ll see you in the next one!

The results were very surprising! I have the Sony, but I'm looking to spend on something that sounds better than the built in GO mic (but doesn't cost as much as the GO 😬) I was set to buy the diety until I heard this test! I wonder if the Rhode lav is optimized for the Rhode receivers? If so that should be a consideration. Do you have a Lav shootout with all mics straight into a field recorder?
@TLDR_filmmaker
3 жыл бұрын
Hey hey Josh! Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting! I too was surprised with the Deity, it's not bad and does feel a bit more equal in terms of its frequency response, but I was surprised the noise floor had more of that hiss sound compared to the RODE Lav GO. The Rode Lav could be optimized, I will know more as I go back to some of the current popular 2.4ghz lineup and see how it sounds. I have not done a straight lav shootout yet into a field recorder, but will once I get more to add to the line up. The only problem is my field recorder is quite old and depending on what I need to set the pre-amp at I could be adding the field recorders noise floor into the mix minus the mics own self noise. @@TLDR_filmmaker Zoom H1N seems like an adequate recorder. (I dont' own one yet, but reviews seem positive) I just returned the Andycine AC-M1 (recommended in your video) It seemed comparable to my Movo but when connected with a short TRS cable (like the one included with the Rhode Wireless Go) to the transmitter I experienced significant RF interference. (longer cable seemed to eliminate) I do not have this problem with the Movo VXR10, so I'll buy another and it will work with all of my gear. Hey hey Pawel! Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting! That was my bad that I didn't explain why I left it out. Basically because I felt it wasn't fair that I couldn't keep the outdoor sounds consistent, so some lav tests had more birds and the others was just barely any wind etc. So I left it to the "fan" test to see how well each one rejected sound. In my most recent lav shoot out I now leave the outdoor section in and I consistently kept repeating "this is not far depending on what sounds show up as I do it". Sorry for the confusion, hopefully the fan ambient sound test is enough for you to get an idea of how each lav rejected it. Thanks again for stopping by! Usually the locking ring doesn't pose a problem as far as I know with the various wireless systems I've used the Deity with that does not have the locking ring mount on the TX.

When I plug the Sennheiser xs lav into the rode wireless go 2 the sound cuts off. Do I need a adapter cable?

Hey hey Abroad In Bavaria! Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question! If you have the Plug version and not the USB-C version, yes, you will need a TRRS to TRS adaptor like this one geni.us/hy0g (affiliate link). If you have the USB-C version, these will not work with the RODE GO II at all. Hope this helps! Thanks again for stopping by! Stay safe, healthy, and I’ll see you in the next one!

That's a real shame about the JK mic. But it makes me wonder if that RF noise is more of an issue with the Wireless Go than the mic itself. I wonder if you get the same issue with other wireless kits like the Lark 150 or Blink 500.

I use the Mic J with my Comica Boom XU and I have no RF noise 🤷♂️

Hey hey again Gerald and Copy Imitation! I will be doing follow up videos to the Lark and Blink 500 Pro, not all my wireless reviews as many have become outdated. That's a good question if JK mics have problem with 2.4ghz systems. I'll find out soon enough! Copy Imitation, the reason you are not hearing RF noise with the XU is because the RF is at 500mhz. These frequencies don't tend to send RF interference into the mic.

@@TLDR_filmmaker I am super interested in your results with the Lark 150 as that's what I have and would love if the JK mics worked with it.

If I get a chance later today I will do a quick test and just tell you via comment if I hear any interference.

I’ve had similar interference issues with the JK Mic-J 044 and the original Wireless Go. I did NOT have the same problem with a first generation Sennheiser EW-100 system or the Zoom H1n.

Hey hey Matthew! Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting! That is unfortunate to hear about the JK Mic-J 044. I guess it only does well with traditional UHF lower frequencies in the 500-600hz range. Thanks again for stopping by! Stay safe, healthy, and I’ll see you in the next one!

I'm happy to have discovered your channel. I have a quick question about the clipping with the scream test. I won't be screaming per say, but what if I'm in a loud environment like a trade show and I have to talk louder? Does the clipping happen at the extreme level?
@TLDR_filmmaker

Hey hey The Geocab! Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question! Most likely it will not clip in those situations as my scream is quite loud. You talking louder I don't believe it will be enough to clip the mics. Thanks again for stopping by! Stay safe, healthy, and I’ll see you in the next one!

Very revealing! Why bother with boom mics when you've got this sort of quality at little expense. And visible mics? It doesn't bother most mainstream TV presenters so why should it bother little KZitemrs???

I whole heartily agree with the "if it doesn't bother TV presenters" comment. It's so true. I don't know why people care that much. Its not like we're filming a theatrical movie when we do these bedroom studio youtube review content.
