This was so funny, because I planted my new lavender today as well. What a coincidence. :-D Sometimes I love to add culinary lavender in fruit spreads I make, such as peach or orange spread. Other times I like to add it in my cookie dough. It is something very special. In my "Witches-Cookies" I add herbs of the Provence, such as rosemary, lavender, thyme and oregano or majoran. Just a mix of those, like a teaspoon full, crushed, to a normal batch of cookie dough (12 to 18 cookies). I have another great tipp for bug and moth repellant: Black pepper corns (whole pepper). I put it into sacchets or just spread it loosely, if the garments are in drawers or chests. This is an old remedy from my grandmother and mother. They used it in Egypt all the time. There are many bugs there, as you can imagine. Huggs from Rose-Cottage, Schurwald Forest Germany.

Well I received your book yesterday delivered by & purchased from Amazon, the book is totally beautiful, the illustrations, are just beautiful, I was so happy to receive it. Lavander I have a hard time growing it in the climate of Florida & the weather kills it off along with the vegetables I try to grow, back in New York never had a problem growing anything I sure do miss my garden back in New York Here in Florida I am able to grow roses, snowball bushes, hibiscus which I love it grows great in Florida, I love my garden & so do the neighbors that walk by. cause no one here is much of a gardener.

I have the mantle clock, bud vase and flower pot that matches your coffee cup. The Port Meirion collection is so pretty. When I found your videos, I was relieved to know that there was another ”kindred spirit” who has a strange affinity for acorns, heritage plants & animals, & such a love for things of Great Britain & its colonies that one might be called an Anglophile. Your videos have brought me so much joy & truly a relief. I am seen as a very ”odd duck” in the small town in which I live. Not many women here find the Victorian/Edwardian age stimulating. Nor do they find interest in pursuing an author & researching her life & contributions to the world. I love every bit of it! Thank you so much. Do you care much for L.M. Montgomery? I made a trip to Prince Edward Island. Quite delightful! So much ”scope for the imagination.” I have also followed part of the trail taken by The Charles Ingalls Family when Lauren Ingalls Wilder was growing up. I enjoyed it immensely.I believe you mentioned Laura Wilder in one video. Have you done a garden or tea about her? Her books are filled with cooking, botany, history of the era & more. Thank you again for breathing life into our lives & giving us such an ample opportunity to dream!

Sometimes it's good to be the odd duck, I know I am here in my little corner of the county. I'm very interested in the authors of such classics of Anne of Green Gables and of course the Little House Series. I will certainly be doing a tea with them! One of my Great Grandfathers lived on Prince Edward Island, I am sure it would have looked much the same as the times of Anne. How nice that you have visited.

Will be interesting to see how your new lavender goes. I have planted 'Grosso' lavender which was recommended to me from a farm garden. It was hard to find but I am hopeful it will do well in my garden. The trick is always to plant what works for your own garden and soils. Well done with your soil preparation. They have been given the best possible start. The bee balm, Bergamot,. Monarda 😊 are so beautiful in your garden. The bees 🐝 would be regular visitors when growing these beauties.

Oh! That's what I'm doing wrong! I have 3 types of Lavender, including one Phenomenal, and two are just not doing well, and one is the Phenomenal. I have them in large pots so they're draining well, but I have them in a soil mix that is too rich! I've been planning to replant them anyway, so I will do that very soon and I'll add a lot of gravel and perlite into the mix. We're having crazy hot temps even for TX and everything is struggling so much. This year it's so early though; I don't usually have this much heat stress until August. I love the Monarda! We have a lot of the wild "horsemint" or "spotted bee balm" type of Monarda, but I need to try planting the cultivated kind more like what you have. It's so pretty! It seems you had a great time at the festival and came back with some very fragrant reminders of your time. Sensational sounds like a great type of Lavender to try. My area is much more arid than yours and the only reason I can't get Lavender to grow must my ignorance. If I can't get the plants I have to survive I will not give up. Though I will say I'm having the best luck with a Fern Leaf Lavender. It is fragrant, which I love, and I read it tolerates more water, but the flowers and leaves are different from other lavenders (nice just not the same) and not quite cold hardy here. It should be a perennial shrub but I live just a bit too far north for it maybe. Anyway, it's one you might want to look into at least for an annual in your area too. It grew really well in pots for me last year too, but died in the winter. ...Oh, my DIL (my son's widow), her sweet hubby and my 3 grandsons from Lexington, TN are arriving on the 3rd to spend a whole week with us! I can hardly wait! I'll finally get to meet my 3rd grandson! (Actually, my 4th counting my daughter's son.) He's a year old already and I haven't met him yet. I'll find out from them how our temps are comparing to theirs in TN. ...Think now I'll go see if I can round up a cup of lavender tea too! Thank you so much for sharing with us. Your gardens and all your hard work are such an inspiration. Thank you!

Also a cousin of mine who lives in California just north of the Bay has tons of lavender all over her courtyard, it just smells so good that when I visit she allows me to take back. They definitely have the Mediterranean like climate where she’s at. Best of luck with the Lavender

I was a decorator back in New York & my home is really my canvas, full of beauty & design, antiques, & art. My garden is designed in the Betrix Potter theme, with beautiful flowers everywhere & rabbits and lambs, people stop by just to say how pretty it looks. I have to water it every other day. Today and tomorrow we are hitting 102 with heat index of 105-107. in south Arkansas, i have had to cover some other potted lovelies with umbrellas by noon as they suffer so great from the heat. I am using shade cloth on my raised garden all day, every day for the last several weeks. Your gardens are lovely. I also have wild bergamont and dried the leaves for tea this year. You are my saving grace for lavender growing! I have the same weather conditions/soil as you. I’ve planted lavender plants (which ain’t cheap!) all over my garden with little to no results. Last year it all was doing great (I even had a pink variety!) until the flood killed them all. ☹️ I bought one this year and planted it in a long planter, up on the porch, away from ANY excess water! I cut a few blooms today…that scent…😌 I have the same book as you! I bought it at the library book sale, after checking it out repeatedly. I’m gonna check out your past episode and can’t wait to see how your new variety does. I envy your bee balm too. Mine does fabulous (light purple and pink) then it gets like a mold (so do my zinnias), I figured it’s due to the awful heat/humidity. I LOVE Lavender I have 18 of them! 10 are doing great the others are struggling. Is Sensational the same as English Lavender?

No, English Lavender is not the same. English Lavender doesn't do well for me in TN.

Does the lavender need to be refresh each year to keep away pests from wool? Thanks 😊

Yes, once it loses its scent, it can be refreshed by sprinkling Lavender Essential oil.

When I lived in southern Illinois I planted 250 Grosso Lavendula and they survived for 10 years. We had clay soil so I amended it with a lot of sand. It has a very medicinal scent, not mild and sweet like Hidcote.

WOW, I'm impressed and I can just imagine how magnificent it must be to see 250 Lavenders growing! I have to ask if you had a Lavender farm?

My soil is rock and sand, I have no issues with growing lavender! My climate is dry in eastern Washington zone 6, although we have had a cooler wet spring my lavender is thriving! I have an acre and half of it is weeds, sagebrush and cheat grass we just mow it down, I would love to plant that area in lavender but because city water is so expensive I hesitate to plant much. It would be interesting to see how much water it would actually take to grow a lavender patch!
