I can't believe they thought Lenny would be a danger to Amy! He may be a nuisance (a lovable one), a troublemaker, and a huge flirt but he is no dangerous threat. If anything, when he does show those signs, it's usually due to Squiggy leading it. On his own, Lenny is a lovable guy who any girl would be lucky to have.

His character was a womanizer though. He and Squiggy would always come into girls to sleep with them. They were afraid of good girls sleeping around too in those days and since Amy was ‘slow’ her mom and family were extra protective. They were afraid Amy could agree to sleep with him and him not knowing she was slow, he would agree. They also thought Lenny was an idiot (even if he wasn’t labeled). But he turned out to be smart and respectful here and really liked Amy.

This was a great episode! It's never made clear how "retarded" Amy was - although usually it's a person with an IQ below 80. It's also important how everyone worried for Amy's safety. IRL there have been plenty of stories of mentally handicapped people who were taken advantage of sexually. Strange that no one thought to call Frank at the Pizza Bowl first when Amy went missing. One would think that would be the first place to check.

It's just a show. They probably would get upset and worried and think they may have walked around outside like to a park by them to talk by themselves without being bothered by the others inside. So, they split up. Squiggy went to one of their favorite hangouts to see if Len brought her there. Again, it's only a show. It's sad even 2 of the younger people in the small main cast are dead, now. Squiggy and Laverne. There were I think only 5 fulltime younger characters. Now 3. Shirley, Lenny, Raguso

Well back in that time (1950s) a lot of slow learners or shy people were labeled "retards" and separated from society or sent to the funny farm, where as today they wouldn't be ridiculed or looked down as different as much. Even those with high functioning autism today although somewhat different people, can be more functioning members of society.
