They were really close friends. They knew each other as kids when they went to school together in St. Louis. And when Redd got into trouble with the IRS in the 1990s, he called LaWanda several times for help. People tend to think that because they fought so much on Sanford And Son they were not friends. They were very good friends, they were doing nothing but acting.

She's so sweet and soft spoken, very different from her "Aunt Esther" character. Love this interview.

In the world of 2021, Sanford and Son would never have been possible.

I guess same sex couples making out in prime time is politically correct. I'm glad I can search for the TV shows I want to watch.

I got a chance to meet her when I was in High School in 1986 in Indianapolis. I was over a friends house and she came by. class and elegance in 1 package.

How classy was she, and funny and smart... Can we say the same of these "fools" on stage and TV today!?

Sure can't. Today performers would be swearing, talking about their bodily functions (if you let them go on enough). Very little class shown today.

First time I've seen Lawanda talk outside of acting. Intelligent, beautiful black woman. Whoever posted it. Thanks. Classic interview.
