Hi Sharon So the real TEL was 5ft 5" grey eyed and had light brown hair - of course the impression everyone has of him was Peter O'Toole, 6ft 1in bleached blonde and piercing blue eyes. We wanted to take a revisionist approach and wanted someone who was vunerable. I was less concerned about looks and more about character. TEL suffered from PTSD from WW1 - never explored in other portrayals and this was important our story - we wanted an actor who could portray these vunerabilities which Tom did in spades, hence the 32 awards at 22 festivals. Hope this answers you question. BTW have you seen the film?

Simple question for simple minded producers: The real Lawrence was a blue eyed blonde. He was famous for his startling blue eyes and his reddish blonde hair. Not the yellow blonde of Peter O'Toole. His skin was very fair and turned brickred in sun, but did not tan. Why was it necessary to cast this tall, dark handsome hunk to portray a real life hero larger than life?
