Layering Snares and Claps: Take Your Beats To The Next Level | Bite Size Mixing Lessons Part 1
I usually like to list the relevant plugins that I used in the lesson, but today wasn't as much about plugins as some of my other videos. Instead of listing plugins, I thought it might be helpful to list a few recommendations when you're layering snares and claps on your own. They're listed below. I hope they help!
Layering Snares and Claps:
• When you're looking for your dominant snare, try to find one that is full and heavy. It's much easier to find supplementary sounds that fill the high-end of the spectrum. 🎚
• This should go without saying, but I wanted to mention it again for (maybe) some of you new folks. When you add a new sound to your project, you should ALWAYS assign it to its own mixer track. Nothing results in a bad mix more than sloppy prep, and once you start doing it, you won't have to think about it anymore. 🎚
• Make sure that your supplementary snares/claps are turned down to the point where you can't hear the distinction between them. Your snare should sound like it was designed to sound that way. That's why it's important to keep the volume low. 🎚

This FL Studio production course caters to hip-hop and EDM producers, but the information in this video can be used by producers and mix engineers of any genre, including trap, freestyle, dirty south, west coast, and more.
This tutorial was made using FL Studio 21, but any DAW will work. Whether you use a DAW with native VST or AAX plugins, these concepts are consistent across the board.
