Great feat of engineering on the lift up, Deryk!! I like it!! You should have no trouble hiding the hinges with scenery or even a building or two!! Thanks for sharing this update!!

I agree with what John Prescott said, make sure you have a moisture trap! Thanks for the update, and have a great day. Ethan

Nice to have you back on the layout! Lift up looks great! I have to do some tuning to mine. The weather has really effected it and now its too tight. I'll get to it one of these days. I have only had my airbrush a few months but love it. I use it for just about everything I paint. *Just keep it clean.

Deryk, After watching part 1 and 2 SEVERAL times each, I have decided to replace my swing bridge with a liftout such as what you demonstrated. Mine will be more secure than the swing bridge, more reliable and more attractive as well. Great how to videos. Thanks for these videos even if you did 'borrow' the idea from someone else. Dale

Looking great man, can't wait for the next update. One thing about the airbrush, make sure you have a moisture trap on your setup. Nothing worse than pushing paint around and a big ole glob of water shoots out and ruins things...ugh..i know, trust me. It's worth it's weight in gold if you are going to be using it a lot. I also need to know how you knew which ESU decoder to use for the Amtrak engine,. I'm wanting to get one for my dash 9 Athearn BB, but I can't figure out which one to get. You can email if you like. =) Thanks, John

Deryk great Job on the lift bridge, i have an idea for holding your lift bridge up. You should use a small chain on the side of the lift bridge and place the other end of the chain to the side or top of your layout this will hold it up cheers Robert
@DGModelworks

Thanks Robert! And great idea with the chain. The problem I am having is..keeping it from falling both directions. It will open up flat. If you have any suggestions on that problem, please let me know. Thanks again, Deryk

Nice work. You have lots of good ideas I can 'borrow'. BTW - found my way here from a shout out given by Chuck Baker. Not sure if it has been mentioned before, but consider using a screen door closer on the underside. It has a 'stop' that will hold the panel open, and on the way down (accidentally or not) it will lower the panel gently into place. Subscribed.

Get a gas strut with brackets to hold it open. They also make some with springs inside instead of gas, the RV industry uses a lot of them. Low pressure/weight is what you want

Go to any good home store and buy "invisible" hinges that are used for kitchen cabinets. They come in a variety of shapes and sizes and will do a nice job. I used a single track liftout and camouflaged it by making it look like a bridge, and when in place it allowed continuous running rather then point to point.

I've viewed a number of similar videos on lift offs and lift ups, where I guess by now that you have come to realise that the centering pins don't really do anything, particularly that with use that the holes in the life up panel will quickly grow larger with use.

Nice Lift up gate. How wide were your gaps in the track for each side? Were the gaps on the hing side, angled?
@DGModelworks
7 жыл бұрын
I didn't angle the gapes at all, and just used a dremel to cut the rails. The hinges just need to be mounted above track height or you will run into contact issues when you lift it up.

Real nice work on your lift-up. Train runs smooth across it, nice job Deryk....don't think I would keep it lifted up....just in case. Not good, when things hit the floor. I think you will start to like airbrushing....it's fun and make things look great. Bob, longshadowsmodeltrees.com

Thanks Bob! You make a good point. Maybe I shouldn't worry about propping it up. That way there is no chance of things hitting the floor. That's easier than wiring up kill switches. Thanks for stopping by! Deryk
