Man, this is prime middle-period Scriabin. You can still hear a slight Chopin influence, but the language of the music was mostly Scriabin, at this point.

Does anyone else think the odd little 'coda' at the end of the second étude ( 3'00-3''04) sounds like a schizophrenic snippet from the finale of Chopin's second sonata, op. 35?

David McNulty. Chopin was Scriabins hero. So maybe.

Thanks for uploading! This has long been a favorite recording - I have it on an old 4 LP set of Berman recordings that I got secondhand. For me this is easily one of the best recordings of this set of etudes (along with Richter's selection). Berman's recordings from the late 50s/early 60s - culminating in his stereo version of the Liszt Transcendental Etudes (1963) - are IMHO his peak, and were long underrepresented in the catalog.

9:58 this feels a bit rushed, but in a good way..a controlled way..the piece should be esatalto(which means it should be overstreched and still maintain a deranged, excited, feeling) All in all, I love it❤

There's something peculiar about the way this piano is tuned and I can't figure it out exactly.
