Parasol Systems showed their KLR, Kinetic Light Ring at LDI 2011 in the Clay Paky booth with 12 Sharpys. Learn more about the Parasol KLR by visiting plsn.me/parasolKLR
I used to be a Martin lighting technician. I had thought of this idea of incorporating moving light head with a moving platform ,10 years ago. Its nice someone actually developed it. Kudos !

+edgar sanchez The lights are from the Italian brand Clay Paky and model name is 'sharpy' . One sharpy costs about 6000 US dollar, this ring has 12 of them so 12x6000 = 72.000 dollar for just the lights, and I think that rotating ring cost you about 20 to 40 thousand dollar...... And add some rigging/motors/hoists/ steel cables and so on, you need about 150.000 dollar in total for this object.

+edgar sanchez Hi, it would help a lot if you tell us your budget..... but you can NOT get this effect with rotating lights on a very low budget..... If you want to do this extremely cheap you can try to find an old light effect from the '90s , this light is from a factory called "Griven" and the model name is "Helios" . I have this light effect in my collection, it uses a 1200 Watt HMI discharge lamp and it projects light on 24 mirrors, biggest problem is: NO DMX so it runs on the beat of the music..... But what are you going to do with it ?? Mobile DJ ? Or in a club ?

There nothing cheaper. Your paying for the latest and greatest. Unless you buy older lights like Martijn just mentioned.

+edgar sanchez These are Beam Moving Heads for mid air effects. If you want to light a show i would suggest you something like this setup: 4 fresnel lenses (650w or more, you can get them for ~50$ USED) + 2 or 4 Spot Movingheads (for example: Martin Mac 250 ~250$ USED) + 4 Pack Dimmer ~80$ NEW You can control all this using DMX. You need a Lighting controller for this.

Wireless Dmx to one fixture, than all subsequent fixtures are run DMX in-out. Power is probably supplied from brushes on the stationary platform to the rotating platform. rotating ring has plugs on itself for the lights to plug into.

You can create exacty the same effect - - whats happened here is chauvet did a display at LDI - using colour washes - they were in a circle - and it is really down to DMX - the parasol just turns -impressive - I dare say - but you can - create this effect with scanners -or washes - in a circle using DMX- still quita a cost as you need 16scanners !!

Guessing here: Wireless DMX and a series of metal brushes on an electrified curcular track to provide power to the fixtures.

@@martijnvv8031 He was actually right. Production company I know of leased one of these years ago to demo and sort thru for an extended period at their warehouse. It was constantly problematic and really not worth it with all the added weight and structure capacity to get past the obvious uses and find other ways to be creative with it.
