I subscribed to your channel. I'm an older guy too! I played lead guitar in bands when I was younger, and about 6 yrs ago, I sold all my equipment... a stupid move I know. I recently got back into playing. Bought a *new guitar: Ibanez Standard RG421PB - Caribbean Shoreline Flat with a fixed bridge. I'll re-learning music theory and I'm playing again. You're a good teacher with good skills, thanks for the content!

I have no background in music except for the cowboy chords I played as a teen. Music language is so difficult to grasp but now having a note chart for the fretboard, you've taught me that "box" and even understood the blue note. Rusty....You helped me get it. Now I need to learn the order of string picking/plucking and I'll be on my way to understanding fretboard navigation. Rusty, you not only teach patiently but you approach with different angles and examples to make sure we understand. Thank you!! I have watched this 3 times already.

I didn't quite get that very last thing, about sliding into the C# note, but that's my problem. I'll just practice with the backing track until it makes more sense. This was another great lesson!
@rustysguitar1
Жыл бұрын
Hey Crash 💥 the odd chord in that progression is the last chord F#7. The C-sharp note is one of the notes in that chord, so when you slide up to it, it sounds great. But the B minor pentatonic scale sounds great over that entire chord. Progression for sure. But adding the C-sharp note at the end, spices it up. Thanks for taking the time to watch the video. Happy jamming buddy.👍

When I started playing the guitar, a friend showed me that exact pattern, and he told me, "that's all I needed to know to play Rock/Blue". That was six years ago, and he was right! That pattern along with studying the five Pentatonic scales, I can now play any key up and down the fretboard. This is a very good lesson for any beginner even though you marked it intermediate players!

Your one of the best instructors on the net, what a great tutorial, but can you explain why you chose B minor pentatonic as the main reference
@rustysguitar1
Жыл бұрын
Hey Jeff, thank you for the kind words. The chords in this progression can be built from the B minor scale. So the B minor pentatonic scale works great over all of these chords. Also, it contains the F#7 chord instead of the F# minor chord. So just altering the A note to B flat. There are other scale, formulas and modes, You can use over this. I but certainly the B minor pentatonic scale is my choice. I think SRV would agree. But targeting the B flat note when it comes to that F#7 chord sounds great. I know this is a lot of information. Hopefully it was helpful. Enjoy your day Jeff.👍

This is one of the best lessons. In fact it suddenly clicked that i can use this idea to solo over a A B C chord progression by just playing the four note box for each note ie A B and C.
@rustysguitar1

Oh yes, this 4 note concept works in any key. Easy to build from the root note. Glad to got something from the lesson Kenneth! Thanks a lot buddy 👍

@@kennethcarvalho3684 really I just broke down some solo ideas in the intro solo. Not sure if that answers your question? But thanks and have a great weekend.👍

@@rustysguitar1 Sorry my bad.. The solo you were referring to at 16:15 ?
@rustysguitar1
Жыл бұрын
@@kennethcarvalho3684 oh, yes. It was from the hotel California solo. That little move I did at the end of my break down. Just had that same sound. The hotel California solo is real similar. Using the B minor pentatonic as structure and following the chords. Thanks for checking out my videos, Kenneth! Talk to you later.👍

Hey Rusty, this has got to be one of your best lessons. Everything just clicked and worked. Learning new licks and box shape lead breaks in different positions etc. I felt like l learned so much in such a short period of time while totallly enjoying the playing and improvising with my own licks from what you taught. Made my Saturday night, thank you so much

Oh my god! I was watching you explain the three positions of the four note box, and then as soon as you played that fifth note I realized that I'd already learned this as a scale, I just hadn't made the connection like this in my head! This is awesome!
