I can vouch for this. I'm a budget golfer, my entire kit is second-hand or thrift store finds. I picked up a 5 hybrid a few months ago because the head was coming loose on my old one and I didn't have the tools or time to reset it (got the tools now, just need the time). When I tried the 5H out, I hated it...not sure if it was different shaft flex, or the swing weight was too light and I couldn't feel where the head was...for some reason, everything was going about twenty degrees right...not a fade, just straight off to the right... I put a little over 6 grams of tape on it, favoring the heel...and that thing is a nail-driver now. Had it out yesterday and had three or four shots that went straight down the line, right where I was aiming. I think it added about 15 yards, as well, but every time I've played since I taped it, the wind's been blowing, so how much of that is club and how much is wind is debatable. Took my 52° wedge from a "I think this might work" club to a pretty sure bet. But, yeah...thinking about tape on my driver (which, for some reason, after four or five years of really consistent, reliable shots, has turned into the least reliable club in my bag) and several of my irons.

Personally I'd steer clear of this unless you have an understanding of swingweight. 9g of tape is 4/5 swingweight points. So if this club is D3 before, then you're looking at it being D8 after. That's a swingweight way heavier to what most pro's can handle and it'll feel like your swinging a piece of rebar. I'd recommend getting a swingweight scale and put your favourite club on there, the one you seem to middle the most. Then try to swingweight match the rest. A good online clubfitter will offer a swingweight service for about £12 per club and they'll match the entire set. It try to play my set at D5 with the wedges a fraction more at D6

Did this on a Driver - same type of Lead. After 3 hits on the range the weights shot off down the range... The Professional ribbon type that comes on a roll is better and stickier and you can weigh the stuff on good digital kitchen scales. ALSO...if you crank down loft on a wood - you Open the face and that may be why you sky and spin it? So, you could have tried at 15 degree and compared first? I know for a Long Drive man that is not what you want to hear... using higher lofts. But for the original spec of the club it is the baseline starting point.
@bryrobertslongdrive
2 жыл бұрын

I had a 910d3 driver that I just could not get on with. Three 3 gram weights later and it’s become a monster driver for me. Now I have just bought a ts3 driver but even with a weight insert it is 12g lighter than my 910d3. The ball flight is weak. Have added the 3 lead strips and tomorrow I look forward to feeling that weight again.

Although the average across the 3 on first looks like quite different, realistically if you remove that first shot without the tape which was definitely “out of the norm” the difference is far less, realistically more like 150 less spin, around 5 yards more carry and total. Very interesting though and I’m sure over a lager data set the difference could be bigger and really help some people too.
@bryrobertslongdrive

Ye absolutely. I think over 100 balls the difference would be about the same as in the video. Definitely a cheap solution for some people though.

Yes the spin was lowered and the height was a little lower but most of the ball speed and distance increase come from the fact that he was simply swinging fast after he put the lead tape on. Which should not happen. Obviously if your swinging faster the ball will go further. And now the club is extremely less forgiving for a club that he says is his fairway finder. Principal of the lead tape works but bad information from the video that can be misleading to uninformed ppl who don’t know to look at your swing speed before and after. Also bet he won’t respond to this comment bc it exposes the video.
@bryrobertslongdrive
2 жыл бұрын
I’ll respond to every comment my friend. In the video I did not try and swing any faster than I did without the lead tape on the club. The swing speed you see on the screen is measured at a fixed efficiency as it’s on GC2. So if the ball speed goes up, it will automatically say club speed has gone up even if I swing the club slower.
