To anyone else who is thinking of doing tutorials - do what this guy did. Go step by step. Don't go too fast. If you are going to call it a tutorial for beginners, don't assume your audience knows anything. Don't tell me how to do one thing two or three different ways. If you make a mistake, and start jumping around, go back and redo that section. Provide a simple model that is correct. I'm completely new to computer animation, old, and not someone who likes anything to do with computers, but I was able to follow this tutorial. Good job Envato Tuts+. Thank you!

Hey man, just wanted to say Thank you. Thanks to you I am now able to do something I've wanted to for many years, and thus I've acquired a skill I'm in love with. Some of the 2D animations I've created have gotten huge praise from the community I'm part of. For the first time in my life, I learned and worked on something, and got praise for it, which has given me a feeling happiness and achievement I have never experienced before. You've literally opened a whole world to me. Thank you!🥰

I know @94leonidas it's been 5 months since you posted that - I hope things are going well, and I wanted to say... you don't need anyone's praise. I hope you're just doing things because it feels good to you, and you're living in the moment. Not really caring about what other people think. Feedback is fine, but ultimately, you do you!

Great tutorial! Heaps of fun learning to do this. Just 2 tips for anyone watching: at 27:37 he mentions going to 'Edit Mode' but you'll notice that he stays in 'Object Mode'. As I found out the hard way, making changes to the ball in Edit Mode causes some complications in the animation (the ball doesn't scale smoothly); so stay in Object Mode like he does. Also, when he's adjusting the speed of the animation at 32:12, make sure to click and drag the mouse to select all the keyframes before pressing the s key. Hope this helps!

(Example) After I stretched the ball for keyframe 5, every keyframe afterwards is stretched like the ball in keyframe 5. In the video all of the keyframes after keep their original shape. Thanks for the video! It's a good starter project. One issue I ran into was I was in EDIT mode when I went to change the keyframes, and you need to be in OBJECT mode, or it won't animate between keyframes (in case anyone else runs into this issue).
@Kio_Kurashi
Жыл бұрын
Yeah, for anyone who knows blender as a 3D software this makes sense. The reason is that while you are in edit mode you are changing object's data, while in object mode you're just changing the object's relation to the world, or in 2d space the screen. For anyone else who's curious.

I had the same problem as you, but I'm also new so I'm not entirely sure how I got mine to work. My guess is that you can only change one property for each keyframe, unless you add them, otherwise any changes will just be applied generally. So what seems to work is: - Change the Editor Type to Timeline, the button to change it should be on the top far left corner of the animation panel at the bottom. Click the Keying option, near where you changed the editor type - Under Active Keying Set, choose “Location, Rotation & Scale,” and click the key icon with a plus sign to add the keyset. - The Timeline will show 9 new keyframes for each property under Object Transforms in the left panel, and there should also be an info log message at the very bottom saying that you “successfully added 9 keyframes for keying set Location, Rotation & Scale.” - Also, you have to set the properties for the first keyframe and adjust the shape, or it will be skipped. Something I'm not sure of is if you have to apply it to every keyframe, since if one frame has the keyset, it also starts to work for the previous and following keyframe. I added it to all of my keyframes, just in case. It also seems to automatically apply it to any future projects, which might be why it wasn't a problem in the video. I hope this works for you guys.

Hi! It sounds like the issue might be with how the keyframes are being set. In Blender, when you stretch the ball at keyframe 5, make sure that you’re creating a new keyframe for the ball’s original shape at keyframe 10. If you don’t add a keyframe with the ball’s original shape, Blender will carry the stretched shape across all keyframes. Try adding a keyframe at keyframe 10 where the ball is back to its original shape, and it should work as expected. Hope this helps, cheers!

i use blender 4.1, how do you put the key frames and make it automatically interpolate (so it looks smooth) instead of it instantly teleporting to the spot other than using interpolation sequence which divides all the key frames and makes it hard to see, for example i have 2 key frames of a circle, when i move it, once the timeline hits the second key frame it instantly teleports instead of being smooth, how do i fix this so it’s smooth and interpolated?

Great video really enjoyed it. I'm fairly new to Blender and still coming up the learning curve. I can't get the animation to work for me. I'm not doing the bouncing ball example but a very simple animation of a stick drawing using a grease pen. I can create keyframes but when I move the frame pointer to the next keyframe and then move my stick object accordingly. the object appears to get set in all my keyframes, not just the keyframe that I placed the keyframe pointer in. Is there a step in there that I'm missing? Am I supposed to click some where to register the object's location in the key frame? I watched the video closely comparing all of the settings in your UI to my UI and everything appears to be exactly the same except for one subtle thing. At the 19:14 point in the video, the highlight of the Ball object in the Scene Collection window suddenly gets an extra little squiggly added to it. But it didn't appear as if you clicked on anything to make that happen, and you didn't say anything that might lead to causing the squiggly line to appear. I don't get one in my UI, which leaves me to wonder if this is why I'm having problems getting the keyframing to work for me. Any help from anyone would be greatly appreciated. Cheers, Mark

Could be that you need to increase the strength of your pencil in draw mode. Its default is around 0.6, but in the tutorial its around 0.9 and I experienced that that transfers to the material as well.

Hi! Thank you for the tutorial, this will bring more talented people into using blender! Your explanations very clear and easy to follow; however, I would like to point out some inaccuracy in this explanation. The key frames that was created in "Edit Mode" has nothing to do with transformations that was done in "Object Mode". Object Mode transformations apply to basic object class (displayed in orange colour in Outliner), this kind transformations you can see in Object Properties (displayed as orange box icon). Transformations was auto key-framed into separate key-frames (thank to enabled Auto Keying feature). Those key-frames can be found in different Editing context of Dope Sheet and have name. To see them in layout from video, one can choose from drop-box menu in key frames area that has pencil icon and name "Grease Pencil" item "Dope Sheet". And if we want to convert Object Transformations into actual Grease Pencil object animation as drawing, we should "Bake Object Transform to Grease Pencil".

when I am scaling the size of ball in 1 keyframe then, it is making the same changes in all other keyframes. any suggestions how to fix it?
@envatotuts
Ай бұрын
Hi! It sounds like the scaling transformation might be affecting all keyframes because of how the keyframes are set up. To ensure that changes only affect the specific keyframe: Check Keyframe Types: Make sure you're not accidentally applying a global transformation. Verify if you're using "Scale" in the keyframe settings or if there's a default setting affecting all keyframes. Use Different Keyframe Layers: If you have keyframes on different layers or parts of your animation, try isolating the keyframes by using different layers for each stage of your animation. Check for Linked Keyframes: Ensure that your keyframes aren’t linked in a way that makes them behave the same across all frames. Adjust the Graph Editor: You can use the Graph Editor to fine-tune the animation curves and make sure that scaling adjustments are only applied where intended. Hope this helps, cheers!

When I enter the 2D option in Blender, the program disappears, then I enter it again and it exits again
@envatotuts
Ай бұрын
Here are some steps to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue: Update Blender: Ensure you're using the latest version of Blender. Sometimes, bugs that cause crashes are fixed in newer versions. You can download the latest version from the Blender website. Check System Requirements: Make sure your computer meets the minimum system requirements for Blender. If your hardware is struggling, it might cause the program to crash. Update Graphics Drivers: Outdated or incompatible graphics drivers can cause crashes. Update your GPU drivers to the latest version available from your GPU manufacturer's website (NVIDIA, AMD, Intel). Launch Blender in Factory Settings: Reset Blender to its factory settings to see if a specific setting is causing the crash: Open Blender, and before doing anything, go to File > Defaults > Load Factory Settings. Then try accessing the 2D option again. Check for Add-ons: Sometimes, add-ons can cause conflicts. If you have installed any third-party add-ons, try disabling them and see if the issue persists. Run Blender with Debug Mode: You can run Blender in debug mode to get more information on why it crashes: Open a command prompt (Windows) or terminal (Mac/Linux). Navigate to the directory where Blender is installed. Run Blender with the command: blender --debug-gpu. Try to reproduce the issue and see if any error messages appear in the command prompt/terminal. Check for System Conflicts: Sometimes other software or background processes can conflict with Blender. Try closing other applications, especially those that use a lot of system resources, and see if Blender runs smoothly. Hope this helps!

wait until you delete keyframes from your timeline but that does not delete the animation. or you create an animation that places No keyframes on the timeline. you will be digging around in the dope sheet and right clicking your object in the outliner to 'clear animation data'. and if you are lucky it 'might' work. blender's animation tools are confusing imo. and i swear i've encountered many instances where the same operation returned different results.

Ok, I will try without links to pictures 1. It looks like when I am creating a circle in the drawing mode the stroke is automatically created in my Blender whilst in you video there is only a drawing created In your video, you can see that in pencil settings strap, next to the pin is blank black In my blender, there is a "black" name in the same spot created automatically- black stroke I assume 2. When you create the circle, in the bottom lefo corner, next to the timline there are below names of layers visible starting from top: -Summary -GPencil - Primitives In my Blender, instead of name "Primitives", there is a name "GP_Layer". Is this a problem and will this cause me issues in further works? 3. Another difference is noted when creating the material (clicking on material icon) You will know what I mean when you see the pictures. In your video there is no material created and in my Blender it is automatically there: the stroke material created.
@envatotuts
Ай бұрын
Hi! I’m sorry to hear you’re having trouble following the tutorial. I’ll do my best to help you out here. It sounds like your Blender is automatically creating a stroke when you draw, which might be due to the material settings. Make sure you’re using the right tool settings under the Grease Pencil tool to avoid automatic stroke creation. You can adjust or remove the stroke in the Materials tab. The difference in layer names (e.g., "Primitives" vs. "GP_Layer") shouldn’t cause any major issues. The names can vary depending on how the layers are created or named in your project. Just make sure the layer structure matches the intended hierarchy in the video, and you should be fine. If a stroke material is automatically created in your Blender, it might be a default setting. You can either use this material or create a new one as shown in the video. The key is to ensure that the materials are set up according to your needs. Hope this helps, cheers!

Gurdeep I am waiting with great excitement and anticipation for your animation tutorial! I assume you have had ‘10 years of experience’ or more if we are ever so lucky, which will enable us to see how it’s done ‘properly’. Judging by the fact that you are not the one doing this tutorial and indeed I assume not working for Envato that you did not do your animation ‘properly’ either. If you had then maybe we would know who you are. Instead we can merely perceive you as an arrogant and rude know it all who obviously has some sort of respect issue. Bounce off Gurdeep you fool.
