🤔☺️👍 loved this because you can’t neglect bar chords as you learn. What really got me smiling was practicing ‘unplugged’ and finding the first 3 of your chords were a very fair match for the start of ‘Exit Music’ by Radiohead…..which made me look that up too 😎👍

Thank you for the lesson, I played this one using a capo on the 2nd fret using Am E G D F C & Dm. the strum pattern was D D DU U DD using it only once for each note. I like your strum pattern better. Also thank you sooooo much for the ebook. I should point out I am a beginner and like many I just want to learn songs, im scared of barr chords cuz I still cant play them. I hope your book helps. I am beginning to realize that learning guitar is not all about playing songs there is a lot more to the theory & practice which you HAVE to know in order to play the songs. Again thank you & rock on, your great!!

Hey, great lesson. Question: I've seen the chorus taught two different ways. It's a slight difference, where only 1 chord in the whole 8 bar sequence differs from the other. It's the third chord in the progression . The way you taught ( which sounds better in my opinion) is G/D/F#/Bm/G/D/Em/F# and then there's the other way it's commonly taught, where instead of F# as the third chord, its an Em, so it'd be G/D/Em/Bm etc. They both work. What's that about?

I know some people have a hard time with strumming, I had a good friend who was learning how to play guitar when I started, he had about a year jump on me, and he knew how to read music and all that hard stuff, but he could not strum. I started playing and within 4 weeks I knew enough chords to play some of my favorites songs by cat stevens and neil young, like Heart of Gold. and I could strum with out any problem, it came very easy for me. If I knew the song real well in my ears I could just strum it, and my friend would get so angery at me cause he has been playing for a year but could not strum. I never understood why someone could not strum, all you have to do is hear and feel the song and then just strum to the music. somebody asked Michel Jackson one time what does he think about when he dancing on stage to Billie Jean, and he said DONT THINK!! JUST FEEL THE MUSIC AND MOVE YOUR BODY TO THE BEAT..and that's the same thing about strumming, don't read no stupid strum chart, that will just screw you up. just learn the feel of the music, and don't think, just strum.

agreed but sometimes it is difficult for some people so they learn strum patterns to help. I was like that when I started and now I can listen and pickup a strum pattern especially if I hear a drummer playing. However, I still have some difficulty with some songs.

Hi, I am an absolute beginner and have been playing the guitar for I think 8 days now. I can play the chords and the strumming pattern, but am running into a couple of problems, any inputs would be helpful: 1. My rhythm breaks during the switches between and to bar chords. I am able to maintain it in the open chords. Is the key to this just practice? or is there any technique I might use for this? 2. I try to sing along so that I can better understand the chord changes, I am able to do it in my head but I think I might be playing it too slow so I end up speeding up and then ruin the rhythm. Every time I try to sing it out loud, I just loose my strumming pattern and it just all collapses. Any suggestions ?

+Akash Sharma Hi Akash and thanks for watching our lessons. For only playing the guitar a very short time it sounds like you are making stellar progress - keep up all that hard work. Please know you are not alone at everyone at your level struggles with bar chords and bar chord changing. A lot of it has to do with using the proper bar chord and bar chord changing techniques - makes it so much easier - I have a killer lesson on bar chords and the techniques and practice exercises - go here to get that lesson for free: www.david-lessons.com/egi/bar_chord_techniques.html Singing and playing is very challenging and you have to know the song cold before trying to sing along. So keep trying for sure but get tighter on your chord changing and strumming and rhythm as well as that will make singing and playing easier - it takes time, patience, and practice. Stay positive and you can do it! Happy holidays and rock oN! -David T, EGI
