In the past 4 years, I must have watched over 100 How To videos on Final Cut, and not 3 minutes into this Video, I have already learned more than all other videos combined. Best How-To on FCP-X I have seen. Thank You DVWorkshops for sharing this Final Cut intro video. It is helping me create correctly, clean up the mess that my Final Cut Libraries/Projects has become, and providing short cuts like "I" = pinpoint, "O" outpoint, "S" + Skimming, etc. Marking this page and will return again and again!

Fantastic. Have been apprehensive about upgrading due to the new design but this has made things so much easier. Usually tutorial vids add a lot of unnecessary info. Cheers.

Ive spent a couple of weeks trying to get my head around the initial set up with FCP X without success as all the other youtube tutorials like to talk about themselves. Well done DV workshops I actually have understood how to set up my external HD and create a new event and understood WHY I need a new event....Now I can start to create some storylines...Thank you. Guys, in spite of the picture being a little fuzzy, the content of this video is great. I'm an experienced Adobe Premiere editor and I'm being forced to learn Final Cut for a new job. This is a great video for someone like me who needs a quick primer on where to find the equivalent controls that I'm used to from Premiere in Final Cut. Aron- Have you considered making some tutorials specifically for users of other editing products transitioning to Final Cut?

Also... X can - Combine audio from different angles within a Multicam Clip - Compound Clip creation in the timeline saves the clip in the Event Browser for re-use in other projects. - Background Rendering uses the GPU on the graphics card, enabling CPU-based processes like transcoding and proxy creation to continue uninterrupted while effects are rendering. - Custom metadata views can be created and used as presets for exporting XML.

Great informative video for the newbie. Please keep it posted. Best video that explains what the editing buttons do (among so many other things). I went through so many other videos and it was not explained. Lots of quality videos out there but without content, are just pretty. I'll take information over quality any time. THANKS!!!!!

With the select tool (press the A button) click on (you should see a yellow border when clicked) then hover over edge of the gray box that indicates the transition. Click on the edge and move to your cursor away from the center of the gray box.

Well, for starters... X can do the following: - Editing MXF files that are still ingesting - Expand multichannel audio files directly in the timeline for precise editing of individual audio channels - RED camera support with native REDCODE RAW editing up to 5K - Ability to adjust RAW images with debayer controls directly - Dual viewers, each with a video scope display - MXF plug-in support that allows you to work natively with MXF files from import through delivery using third-party plug-ins

Great intel, thanks! Was that filmed in San Francisco? I think I have a pic with that silver guy over decade ago. Back then he made a lot of electronic buzzing sounds with something he had in his mouth. His harness wasn't as elaborate back then; it was very cyborg-like. Very cool!

Thank you so much for this very helpful and straight to the point tutorial! :) I've just had to purchase and install FCP X onto my laptop since I couldn't find an earlier version to install (I heard a lot about this version being not so great in comparison (although I'm not sure of why that may be) and I'm used to using Final Cut Pro 7 normally at my college). I was afraid it would this would be extremely difficult to use... you make it look easy though! Thanks again! ^^

I am planning to buy final cut; however, my teacher in News and Public Affairs does not allow us to use DSLR for shooting videos, only videocamera. The thing is, I could not import files from sony videocamera. My macbook does not read files from it. If I could import, the format of the video is not compatible with iMOVIE, and I'm guessing that it will not be compatible with final cut too.
