In this German lesson, you will learn verbs that change the stem vowel in the past participle (perfect). These verbs are also called strong verbs. You must always remember the Partizip 2 (participle 2) together with the verb, the same way as it works with the nouns, i.e., always with the article and the plural form. In this way, you always learn new vocabulary correctly from the start. In this video, you always learn the verbs with an example sentence or with dialogues that are based on everyday language in Germany. This is how you learn German correctly. In addition to vocabulary and idioms, you will also practice German pronunciation and German grammar! In this video, for example, you will also learn to use the correct article or personal pronoun in the dative case, as well as indicators of time (adverbs and temporal complements).

💡 Irregular verbs always have the ending en in the participle II. The stem vowel changes in some verbs. Stem verbs also have the prefix ge-, separable verbs have the infix -ge-, non-separable verbs that begin with be-, er-, ver-, emp-, ent do not have the prefix ge-, e.g., empfehlen - empfohlen (to recommend).
Participle II irregular verb:
(ge-) + verb stem (with/without vowel change) + -en
Examples:
no vowel change
Infinitive: fahren (drive)
Participle II: gefahren
Stem verb with vowel change
Infinitive: schreiben (to write)
Participle II: geschrieben
The past participle is required to form some important constructions in German:
- Perfect tense
- Pluperfect tense
- Future tense II
- Passive
