As an amateur sewist I live your videos I am altering my daughters prom dress and used your shoulder seam and sleeve tutorial as well. Thank you so much. I realized while watching this one how much longer it must take to make a tutorial to explain what you are dpi g or thinking and not just do what is second nature. Thank you for taking the time to share.😊

I'm SO glad that my videos are helping you! You are right...it takes a very....long....time...to put together a video. From filming the different angles, trying to include details I think will be helpful, re-filming footage that didn't turn out right, and dealing with lighting, sound, and just an organized presentation. Not to mention the countless hours of editing...... So thank you SO much for watching and taking the time to leave a comment. I hope you are subscribed and keep watching. I have many more videos in the planning!!!

Yes M'am, I'd love to see how to construct a modesty panel! This was a really great instruction! I'm pondering the idea of doing alterations for hire ...but I'm VERY inexperienced. In our little "Bodunk" area of Deep East Texas there is no one that does alterations anymore. What I wouldn't give to have you next door to learn from! Thank you, Ms. Carrie!

No promises on how soon I can get that out, but will try to make it a priority so it can go hand in hand with this video. Once again, dear viewer, thank you for watching and commenting!

While you were folding up the lacing, I was reminded of bias tape, and began to wonder if you could just use that. As the question was coming to me, you started explaining why lacing cut on the bias would stretch a lot more than if it were cut on the straight. It's like you could read my mind!

that was wonderful! as I watched you make the loops, I had a question. Could you do half as many cuts to make the same number of laces. I get why you wouldn't want to measure each loop as you sew it. But could you cut each loop piece twice as long then stuff the ends and then the middle to make 2 loops? Seems like it might be faster than having to do each loop singly, so instead do it in pairs... It may not be any better, and I may have not explained it well. It was just a thought from my inexperienced mind :)
@SewDarnedFun

You'll have to try it and let me know if it works ;) My first thought is that getting a nice tight bend in that lacing might be hard to get sandwiched in between the bias strip, and each set of two laces could possibly be inconsistent. I show it 'this' way, only because this is what I was taught, and it really doesn't take that long, especially once you get into a rhythm. That's not to say there isn't a better way ;) Thanks again for watching!

Awesome tutorial! I have a dress I'm wearing to a wedding in a few weeks that just doesn't fit my chest right so i'm hoping this makes it fit nicer! Just a question: Is it possible to only halfway remove the zipper? I'd most likely add stitching and maybe even a hook and eye to where the zipper hits my waist, and then go in with the corset back for the upper half?
@SewDarnedFun
4 ай бұрын
ABSOLUTELY! Oftentimes a wedding dress will have a zipper that zips down below the waist, but the bride only wants the lace up portion from the waist up. It works wonderfully to leave in part of the zipper!! I hope it turns out wonderfully for you!

@@SewDarnedFun I am over 60 and even with great lighting in my sewing room, it's difficult. Sometimes some not so nice words slip from my lips.
What size rat tail cording should I use, and what material should it be made of? I’m finding several options so I’m a little confused. I’m going to do this for my best friends wedding dress and want to make sure it holds up for all day wear.
@SewDarnedFun
Жыл бұрын
Hi there! Good question....so the rattail lacing that I use varies from about 2 mm to 4 mm. Both work just fine. They are satin, but I can't tell you if its polyester or rayon. Either should work. There are many lines of stitching that go through these loop to really tack them down, so I don't think the actual fiber should matter. I wish you the very best with the project for your best friend's wedding dress. If you have any more questions, I'd be happy to answer you. Thanks for watching and commenting!

@SewDarnedFun
3 ай бұрын
You might try searching on Etsy. I haven’t found any that is as sturdy as the kind I make…. But haven’t had the need to buy any, myself, that is sturdy. I did buy a ‘steampunk’ lace up for a project that doesn’t need this kind of sturdy, and it uses a grosgrain ribbon for the lace up itself. The loops are made of little ‘d’ rings. I recommend you search on Etsy. You might find something there that will fit your purpose!

How much should we charge this exact same work.
@SewDarnedFun
Ай бұрын
Hi there! Every region will be different depending on your cost of living. I hesitate to state any price here, but I will in this case. For a loops and laces WITH modesty panel, my basic, usual charge currently is $150. This is subject to be higher if I need to take an adjustment in the back waist (which is common) or any difficulties dealing with extra layers that might be below the waist in the skirt area. Also, if I need to buy fabric and supplies that I don’t have, would need to charge more. So that would be my basic charge, going up from there. Hope that helps you a bit! Thanks for watching :)
