The secret to learning just about any skill is to first learn how to learn. Once you've developed a system for yourself, you can then apply it to just about any skill you want to gain.
My personal approach is to break the task at hand down into a series of teeny-tiny little steps. An iterative approach where I try something, evaluate and repeat until eventually, I master the skill I'm tackling.
