It’s always helpful to watch someone else’s technique and listen to them describe their decisions as they progress. Well done!

Wow it's awesome to watch it take shape. And I can tell you have an image in your head right from the beginning by the way you leave things open or bare, and it looks strange until you come in with another color and it suddenly takes shape! The shading/shadows/highlights etc are remarkable! You rock! Love watching you bring it to life

negative space is a very integral part of creating a realistic look.. this isnt full blown realism id need a bit more time and an HD photo to do that. But i was hoping to convey how building the elements from the beginning influences the end result. And to be fair ive painted enough eyes, they are pretty simple to do at least a single :)

New to the art field, some how gunsmithing led to art lol. I work with leather and have fallen in love with the art of tooling out leather. Now I have taken the next step to a good airbrush and working on learning as much as I can about the color aspect of art. Great video for a newbie. Thank you!

Thank you for being you and sharing your knowledge like you do. Its not often I can sit through a whole tutorial of this size and not end up muting the sound or leaving because of a multitude of reasons. You come across very authentic and you let your work speak for itself, (which is pretty exceptional!) New to airbrushing, I've only had my setup for about a month, learning lots and happy with my progression i just want to get away from relying on templates so much. I've scoured the tube for vids like this so I can try learn from watching someone and finally i feel like i learned something!!! You have a new sub for sure and will def be watching it again and checking out your others. Also noticed you use golden as well, which is what i have been using but you are the first person on here that ive come across using it. I've ordered a few sets from createx and wicked that I'm excited to try out. Do you have a preference for paint? Anyways thanx again, all this insight is much appreciated! Cheers

Thank you so much for your kind words! As a quick note, when I started youtube I knew right off I did NOT want to be the guy who did speed paintings just showing off my work! (i have done a couple) Golden high flows are very easy to work with, and as a bonus they are traditional artist colors generally. which is lacking in the airbrush industry as a whole. If you come from traditional art you already would know what "pthalo Blue" "napthol red" and the like are. Instead of names like "apple green" Bright red" which are random. However Goldens are fairly thin so using them on larger works can be an issue. (and the fluid acrylics are too thick generally) They also are not as hard curing on metal surfaces which I also paint on. Createx has a HUGE range of paints. Including specialty paints and are useable on automotive. along with intermixing and matching of their products. which can lead to a dizzying list of products to sift through. However its simple once you understand them. Illustration paints I use a lot, they are finer ground so easier flowing than wicker in general. Although not as easy as golden. They have great adhesion to most anything and dry to a semi flat sheen. Making them a great choice Wicked dries to a pretty tough coating, are a bit thicker and require their reducer. But again durable, flow well once you master thinning them. And has a huge range between opaques (new) Regular wicked which is thick and semi opaque, and detail which is thinner and a bit more transparent. If I only painted on semi absorbant surfaces, golden would be easier to work with, if I only painted on papers etac efx is very smooth flowing. But pretty limited in some respects. Createx is a favorite simply because they are extraordinarily versatile. I hope this answers the question and im not being too long winded :) Best of experiences on the airbrush journey!

Great timing for this video. Not really a beginner but yet I have a long way to go to produce work like yours. Am working on a larger project, ( 18" x24") and I always take sections and practice on other medium before going back to work on large project. Too many times in the past I get to a difficult part and end up messing the whole thing up rather than practicing a technique first. Right now am working on the eyes and this video was a great tutorial. My only question is, how do you know when to switch between a transparent paint and an opaque? Thank you so much for the videos! Always a fan.
@TheAIRspace
3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! As for when to use transparents from opaques. I look at the strengths of each. Opaque being the color remains consistent. And coverage is more. Usually I'll use opaques to base color. Then transparent just to lightly shift tones in the end. Not always, as a fact I've done many paintings purely transparently.

I thought I did list the colors throughout on this one? However exact ratios are not exact because it will vary between manufacturers and even different paint lots can have variations. I strongly encourage people to check out my color mixing playlist, because it will open up a lot for many people! Thank you!

Your art is awesome! Another Q- hope you don't mind! I see you don't have an on the gun regulator. I bought one for my mini-gun - it is so annoying to have the moisture trap and regulator at the end of the gun. Do you think I need to have all that with this new quiet compressor I'm going to buy? I also found that the more things on the more the air leaks from all the threads.

Hello. I really like your channel. I just started to airbrushing and your videos really helpful. I would like to know what you use for erasing . Thanks

Certainly! " I use a few items for various uses. Mono sand erases, backside of a #2 pencil. But more aggresive erasers are also handy, although finding them is harder now. And I use a couple types of fiberglass scratch pens. If you go to kit.co/wleonartistry I have links to all of them And soon... ill have an amazon influencer page where those will be easy to locate! Thank you greatly Keep spraying and be amazing! Bill.

nope not afraid at all really. Ive been painting without a lid a long time.. every once in a while it bites me. But on a vertical surface I never even worry about it :) I do have some vids on hair.. and one of the pet portraits I did technically is the same as colored hair. :) But I will revisit it soon enough.
