Nice to meet you. I am a Japanese who is learning English. I can't tell the difference in pronunciation between the two words no matter how many times I watch the video. Rather, the two words have exactly the same pronunciation markings. In the video demonstration, I understood you to be saying that there is a difference in the way Hear is pronounced, with a slight extension of the end of the word, but basically, I think it is impossible to distinguish between the two words without the preceding and following clauses, isn't it? I would like to know if there are any other clear differences that distinguish them.

Thanks and welcome! Although is tough. My tip is to make the L sound with the tongue OUT OF THE MOUTH while TOUCHING THE TEETH. Then pull it down for the TH so the air can move out. For the life of me could you please explain to me why every dictionary in the world(British or American) says there is a short "I" sound in these and similar words like FEAR, CLEAR, CHEER, etc yet everyone pronounces a long "I" sound in them?
@tarlespeech
2 жыл бұрын
It is because the sound connects to the R making it different. This happens with the sound long O too: /oʊ/ These are called diphthongs. Per google: "Here are the diphthongs sounds in common english pronunciation - /aɪ/ , /eɪ/ , /əʊ/ ,/aʊ/ ,/eə/ ,/ɪə/ ,/ɔɪ/, /ʊə/. The word “Diphthong” is basically derived from the Greek word Diphthongs. This word literally means “having two different sounds”. Hope this helps!

N has air moving out of the NOSE. Tongue touches the teeth. L has air moving out of the MOUTH. Tongue touches the teeth. To fix the mistake, be sure the air moves our of the mouth, NOT the nose for the L.

I am confused, after you say "and now let's put all together" you repeat three words but the video is only about teaching two (here and hear). Are you saying "here, hear, hear" ?
@tarlespeech
3 жыл бұрын
Since the words are pronounced the same it doesn’t matter. you can think of it as here, here, here or hear, hear, hear, or any combination
@newfrs3175
2 жыл бұрын
A bit puzzled here: Like it is written in the official phonetic, you are telling us that the pronunciation is the same, and when you say each world alone "here" or Hear": they are the same. But when you say them in a sentence: they are not the same: as I can hear here everywhere else: "here" is very well decomposed in "hɪ" and "ə" and very little or no "r", while "hear" is "hɪ" with no or very little "ə", but with an audible "r". So why is that the phonetic and the explanations does not reflect that ? Don't you see that you are not saying "hear" and here" the same when said in your sentence ? Thanks a lot anyway for your videos !
@tarlespeech

Good point. These words ARE pronounced the same. You are hearing word stress in a sentence. When a word is stressed, it is a bit longer and may sound different.

At .28 you said it with wrong pronunciation. You said it NOT using the -ear sound. I’m in a bit of a huge argument with my Wife about this. I would say it is not correct. No one says “I HĒĒĒĒRE you. They say I “Hear” you. You even did it with your pronunciation at .28!!?? You completely contradict yourself at .28 is what I’m saying, AND you prove my point.
