I have been playing around with this and looking for a way to make the formula more memorable, by understanding what is actually happening. To those who want to do this also, try putting A face up on bottom and K, Q, 10, J face up on top (K on top, - notice reversal of J, 10). In the following algorithm the comments in ( ) are for understanding. In practice we just follow the recipe omitting ( ). Suppose x=5. Under-cut about one-third deck and count 5+5 as you in-jog top card (K), run 4, run 4 and out-jog a card. Shuffle off, but leave original bottom card (A) on top. Under-cut to out-jog, forming break at in-jog by pushing up at both jogged cards. Run 4 and throw to break. [Those 4 go on top of the A and zzzzK is thrown on top. At this point we have zzzzKzzzzA stacked in left hand, and Q,10,J on top in right hand.) Run 1 (Q), in-jog 1 (10), run 5 (Jzzzz), run 5 (zzzz Z), out-jogging last (Z). Throw remainder on top. Undercut to in-jog and throw on top (QzzzzKzzzzA is now on top). Undercut to out-jog and run 4 (to make zzzzQzzzzKzzzzA); throw off all remaining (which is a 5 card packet of zzzzJ), except the last card which goes on top (10). (Now we have, from top down, 10zzzzJzzzzQzzzzKzzzzA.) I like this because in most places I am just counting to 5, or 5+5, except twice where I am completing a stack by running 4 on top of one of my Royal Flush cards, first the A, then the Q. I only have to think about x and x-1, not 2x, 2x-1. Having understood what is happening, it is obvious to me where I need to run 4 in order to complete the stack on top of one of my cards.

I found this very interesting. I recall first trying these Erdnase procedures when I was a child and finding them just about doable. I think it may be helpful to have a written description. I think you have said: Four desired cards on top, one on bottom; x players. Under-cut about one-third deck, in-jog top card, run 2x -1, out-jog the last of these and shuffle off, placing last card (original bottom of the stack) on top. Under-cut to out-jog, forming break at in-jog (by pushing up). Run x-1, throw to break, run two, in-jogging second of these; run 2x, out-jogging last of these; shuffle off. Undercut to in-jog and throw on top; Undercut to out-jog and run x-1; throw off everything except last card, which then goes on top. I checked. The original Erdnase procedure has a run of 3x at one point. Might Erdnase have known that there were more efficient ways, but liked the longer ones as being more deceptive? I was looking just now at his two card stack. It is obvious there is a faster way, but it involves so little shuffling that it might be easier to spot. We could simplify Erdnase to: The two desired cards are placed on top, under-cut about half the deck, in-jog top card, run x-1, out-jog and shuffle off. Under-cut to out-jog, forming break at in-jog; throw to break, run number of players, in-jog and shuffle off. Under-cut to in-jog and throw on top. This action places the two desired cards so that they will fall to the dealer in the first two rounds. Erdnase makes it longer by running more cards where I have x-1.

Amazing! Thanks for taking the time to write that up 🙏 I think people will find that very helpful once they've understood the principle but might struggle to remember the sequence! Good question if Erdnase knew, but I'm not sure if I'd say the longer is more deceptive. The longer you run, the more likely it is you'd draw attention to it, most laypeople shuffle the entire deck in 5-6 actions, so running say 15 cards (for a 5 player game) can look fishy. At least in my opinion, so I think the Ortiz version is better 🙂

Love it all. I would love someday to get a deck of Erdnase playing cards alongside the book on my coffee table just for inspiration and for the right atmosphere of learning. Hahahaha. I have to look into the different kinds of cards to buy. Keep up the exciting work!

Hope you are much better my friend. I have watched this video twice already and written down the formula. As you know this isn't totally my "bag", but I loved the level of perceived skill to the spectator that this card manipulation has. I will definitely practice this ,if only to hone my sleight skills using the in and out jogs. In fact I think you might have converted me somewhat to the gambling/cheating/manipulation side of cardistry. As always thanks for your time, skill ,knowledge and expertise.😀😀😀🙏🙏🙏

Thank you so much my friend! 🙏😊 Yes, the thing is that even if you're not going to use this it's a great way to practice the overhand shuffle and jogs 👍 This can be used for much more than stacking. I'm glad you find some value from these videos even though it's not your cup of tea, and soon I'll return to Royal Road and more "standard" card tricks! 👍😀

Thanks a lot! And thanks for the idea of starting a second channel, maybe in the future! 👍 I'm glad to have a viewer from Australia! I used to live and study there for about six months back in 2018, and I loved it. I hope to return some day! 😀 And yes I watch his videos sometimes, he's absolutely fantastic at what he does. His technical skill is absolutely phenomenal!
