In this video I will show you how language (which happens in the brain) and speech (which happens in the mouth) work together to help us communicate. We will also take a look at times when speech and language work separately.
Errors in speech can impair a child’s ability to use language effective. An example of this would be a child who uses the appropriate grammar and vocabulary but has a speech issue causes them to always leave the ending off words, then people may have a hard time understanding them.
Children who are late to develop use of language will also likely be delayed in their speech skills simply because they haven’t had as much practice talking. It’s quite common for children to have delays in both speech and language.
It’s important to know that growing speech skills will require different strategies than growing language skills - that’s why Toddler Talk teaches both!!

Babies develop their speech before language through babbling. They practice making different sounds, but the babble has no actual meaning.
Alternatively, sign language, reading, and writing are examples of using language without speech.
