Adding this, constructively; having taken on this killer tune I found the main challenge nailing the '''where's 'one''' conundrum posed by Monk's pair of Bb7 blues trills at the end of the head verse.. (bars 7 and 8).. Making it more challenging is Monk's preferred live modification; a basie-syncopated clanging Bb7 flourish at the end of bar 8... (see the amazing live 1965 BBC version; dig that ride sound). Once this is comprehended the twin challenges of; (a) blowing over a static Bb7 , and ; (b) descending ii-V's seem routine.. Actually this Bb7 proto- 'burnout' must be the inspiration for many early one chord jams but may have come from Ornette..? (freedom jazz dance' anybody..?)
