I agree, I speak portuguese (i'm from Brazil) and the norsk language has a completely new set of words, but its syntax, its structure seems to be very easy to understand, and verbs are not conjugated: once you learn the verb you can start using it. That's very nice :D
@art-tour
10 жыл бұрын
Ricardo Pieper In the beginning it is easy. Wait till you have to learn how to write and pronounce hundreds of verbs... tell me after that how is going on. However I end with the conclusion that it is easier than German.
@ricardopieper11
10 жыл бұрын
ramona rorvik I'll do it if I remember, but I think this is not easy in any language (some may be easier than others, of course). But yes, i'm in the very beginning, there is a long way to go. I also plan to learn Russian (and german), and I know a German and English teacher who was born in ukraine, he also knows Russian and he said that it is even harder to learn than German... so the difficulties shall not stop one from learning a language.

A perfect word for training Ø is Burn! In the english Ø I notice the tongue goes backwards approaching the R in burn, but in norw. you just relax it. The R sound is something we notice right away with americans speaking norw, the tongue must be in normal position and dirring up and down :]

There are free online learning out there for Norwegian and then there is Babbel but that costs about $8 a month or there about but it is an amazing language resource. My suggestion is to use the free Norwegian learning out there one of them is run by the university of NTNU www.ntnu.no/ If you combine the likes of the free learning with videos like this you will fly through it. Norwegian has similarities to English to the point that you may actually see what is being state without actually knowing it fully.

I AM SO GLAD THAT THERE AREN’T VERB CONJUGATIONS! I’ve been learning German for a while and it’s SO complicated! EX: I write - Ich schriebe You write - Du schriebst He/She/They write - Er/Sie/Es schreibt We write - Wir schrieben Y’all/You guys write - Ihr schriebt You (formal)/they write - Sie/sie Schrieben And that’s only regular verbs in nominative case... it gets A LOT worse!

The reason for the H preceding words like "hva" probably derives from its mother tongue of Old West Norse (west for Iceland and Norway, East for Swedish and Danish) where the word is "hvað." It would be pronounced "hwath" (th like in there) in Old Norse/Old Icelandic and more like "kvath" in later Icelandic (closest linguistically to Old Norse).
@CDEbFGAbB
8 жыл бұрын
The inserted H in question words like where, when, who, what, which, why, and even others like whether, etc... might have the same explanation, I guess.
@cjdabes

Considering that English and Old Norse are both from the Proto-Germanic languages, that would make sense. Keep in mind that Proto-Norse speakers and Proto-English speakers would have used similar writing systems called the Futhark (after the first 6 letters of the alphabet system). Old English words would have been equivalent to Old Norse, generally. Old English hwæt is pretty similar to Old Norse hvat and both go back to Proto-Germanic hwat.

They're spelled with ⟨h⟩s in front because they used to be pronounced that way. Pretty much any time a language spells a native word in a way different from how it's pronounced, it's because the word used to be pronounced that way, but people have kept spelling it the same way despite different pronunciation.

I'm Norwegian/American, studied it in Minnesota and really enjoy the refresher courses. Michelle is great. To the people who don't like it shut up....not too many Norwegian speaking individuals in Florida where I now reside. Thanks Michelle...it's a good thing no matter the ass clowns.

I'm 16 and I've been in Norway for about 4 years now, and It's still hard for me to pronounce some words, so it's not easy to really talk perfect Norwegian as I have experienced, but occasionantely u are going to understanding and start speaking norwegian in 6 monthes. Specially if you are young and of course lives in Norway.

I got the alphabet after watching it once lol. But it's very similar to my native one, just 4 letters are different if we don't count 3 last not existing in english.

I'm french and I started to learn Norwegian, and if French is as hard to learn, I'm really happy about being born with it in my brain because I wouldn't learn it on my own. (Hjernen min :p )
