No joke, as an autistic person, having the "why" of it explained is SUCH a good way to get me engaged in something. This video is a 10/10, gonna start practicing again

Whenever I hear that sweeeeet “1 + 2 e” with the hat chick in the e of 2 and the displaced backbeat, I ALWAYS think of you. I often call that “the Johnston” because it’s all over your playing! And it’s super freaking cool. Another great video, Mike!

This is my favorite kind of funk groove, with a backbeat missing, leaving plenty of space for those ghost notes to fry and sizzle.

My challenge this month actually ! After 30 years of drumming I never played that kind of groove and I'm ok at 100bpm, but I'm going a little bit slower to make it groove for now ;) Thanks Mike !

Ghost notes DEFINITELY give it some umf! That wanna make you move your head and body. Unfortunately I’m not there yet with ghost note, just play hard and on beat, not so tasty 🤦🏻♂️ Thanks for the tutorial, I freaking need it! Your kit sounds soooo sweet btw 🤙🏽

I think the style of music dictates a lot of that as well. If I'm playing heavy rock then my drumming tends to be louad and fairly monotone because that's what matches up best with the sound of what I'm playing. However, if I'm playing some funk or modern fusion then the texture is a massive part of the sound. Keep chipping away my friend, one note at a time. Also, thanks for the kind words about my sound :)

Mike. I really hate you (in the fun good way) right now. I love the feel of this groove but holy frozen Canadian piss is this a tricky one. I've not struggled with a groove this bad in a long while. I will get it, but the sticks have been flying across room intentionally the past couple days. 😂. Thank you for the challenge. Cheers from Canada.
