So, I wanted to make a video that "I" would have wanted to see years ago when I first started. I know I was really intimated for YEARS because there's just so much content out there. I wish someone would have told me I didn't have to know all of it to start and that I didn't have to memorize numbers, not to mention not to fear all that tiny text on the character sheet. The video is not definitive, but hopefully it gets someone past that little bump that's preventing them from starting. CHEERS!

Wait wha??? When did the The Mines of Phandelver module make tokens for everything included inside? The version I purchased has a bunch of tokens with just names 🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️

@@1970joedub it has a bunch of folders with a variety of stuff in them, they normally appear at the bottom of the journal tab (if you bought the module on roll 20)

@@daniellins4114 I did buy it, and buyer beware!!! I find WOTC delivers subpar VTT products on Roll20. It’s not just this module. The VTT Out of the Abyss module, for instance, has the exact same clerical errors and typos as the hard copy edition. For example, The character sheet for the NPC dwarf Eldeth dwarf doesn’t have darkvision?!? This is handed to players who then wonder why a dwarf can’t see in the dark. Clearly the person editing this section of module did not play D&D. The OOTA module is also lacking many of the VTT maps required to run it on Roll20. This means the DM has to spend more money and do more work. It’s already a difficult module to run. Why make it harder? 🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️ I could go on and on, but why bother? WOTC clearly doesn’t care, or they would have fixed things by now. Seems to be a pattern. Buyer beware.

@@1970joedub ok, thanks for the warning. But I got LMoP when they were giving it out for free recently and it came with a lot of sheets, and text, and material. I just haven't read much of it yet, so I can't tell you if it all is right, but it seems to be. Although, since you were giving warnings, part of the text was unreadable in the new dark mode because it didn't change to white text, making me having to change to light mode in certain parts of my reading

Wow, in 10 seconds you've helped crystalize the difference between Intelligence and Wisdom for me! I was never quite sure of how to properly differentiate them, but how you described it as 'book smarts' and ' street smarts', brilliant! Thank you :)

Thank you for uploading this, it can be daunting to first jump in and this gives an all around idea of how to play the game without getting bogged down in the details. This sort of content is exactly what is needed to throw more players - and perhaps more importantly, DMs - into the fray. Would have totally loved to see this when I started out, will save to send to new players in the future.

A year or so ago, The Lost Mine of Phandelver was given a 2.0 upgrade, free to everyone who had purchased the original. It brought the module up to the (at the time) current standards of the conversion team. If you haven't looked into it in a while, I'd say it's worth taking another look!

@@JennBarny I just bought the module in March, before the freebie, and many of the tokens, like Slidar, are just names. Same thing happens with the VTT of “Out of The Abyss”. Hasbro/Wizards of the Coast really drop the ball on their VTT modules. It almost appears to just be a very lazy money grab. Compared to the actual hard copy books, the Roll20 VTT modules offer a fraction of the required information.

Did you upload a new version of this because you accidentally recorded how you only have 400 hours over five years in a system you are literally paid to use?

How much D&D do you expect people to play? An average of an hour and a half per week seems like pretty consistent usage to me.
