Hello, I used your drafting style. And I discovered the sleeve cap has an ease of 2.5" This huge and difficult to handle. How can I fix this from the draft?

Hey Jamie. Tried your sleep pattern. The sleeve cap’s running really big cause when I attach it to the armhole I have almost 2.7” of allowance and fabric’s light so I end up with pleats even after distributing evenly the fullness above the front and back pitches. A couple issues I am requesting feedback on. 1. How can I reduce this excess allowance cause I think 1.5” is just about fine? 2.How much sleep cap allowance is available for this pattern? 3. Is it for roped shoulder or natural with shoulder pad? Thanks

Hi, I will go and check my draft, just in case I made a mistake! I normally allow between 1 and 1 3/4" sleeve cap extra for shaping. You can adjust what you have in several ways but I would narrow the width of the upper sleeve by 3/4"-1" (cut pattern straight down centre and overlap. redraw sleeve cap shape). Pattern is for shoulder pad and sleeve head roll. HTH and will get back regarding my draft.

Thanks Jamie. Curious as to whether you’d consider this draft one befitting a high armhole sleeve with the under sleeve being longer taking into consideration the forward lateral elevation of the sleeve. Secondly, how are you determining the width of your sleeve, both the top and under sleeve?

Really good questions. 1. The sleeve is based on the scye depth on jacket draft. For myself it is quite high although could be 1" higher if needed. I always add a little ease here. As for width the cuff is from measurement (as stated) but bicep is again from jacket block plus wearing ease. Although not perfect (esp if you have larger arms/biceps) but I will be showing how to change the block to accommodate this

Great. Been reading a Thornton Campbell thesis on sleeves and fittings. The more you read the more you realise you don’t know much 😀. I think for now yours will do okay. Was just keen on the bicep fittings. I usually go for a fit that is neither so tight nor so loose.
