A couple of weeks ago a coach asked me what I thought some common technical mistakes freshmen throwers make. In this video I describe the way I teach my throwers (high school and collegiate) the basic fundamentals of learning how to turn with the weight & hammer. I describe this process in three phases.
The first phase is learning how to turn your feet to 90 degrees. The second phase is continuing the turning motion towards 180 degrees. Finally, the third phase is about putting your right or left foot down at 270 degrees, which essentially completes the turn as your toes return to pointing towards 360 degrees.
This is the method I've used for over 10 years when teaching new throwers the basic fundamentals of hammer & weight throwing. My terminology may be different than what you have probably heard elsewhere, but the basic ideas are similar.
