Thank you so much! I appreciate all the support and will definitely keep this in mind as I begin teaching more and more higher level characters, (which I need to review myself as it's been awhile since I've learned/used them 😅)

Hi Sue, thank you for teaching Cantonese language. Keep up your good work! 🙏🙏🙏Btw, there is a ABC Julia teaching Cantonese in Chinatown San Francisco though. I’m thinking if you can share your excellent experience teaching Cantonese with her , that would be great. Thanks again! Stay safe & healthy! kzitem.info/news/bejne/zaqwy5eZa5Sadqw

I'm sorry teacher,I'm Italian and I'm approaching this language but I'm really confused.What's the difference between the Cantonese pronunciation of Written traditional Chinese and spoken Cantonese? The Cantonese people on the street, speak spoken Cantonese or Cantonese pronunciation of written traditional Chinese ? Since the pronunciation is different between spoken Cantonese and Cantonese pronunciation of written Chinese. Standard Cantonese is based on the Hong Kong accent or Guangzhou accent ? These are doubts that I have been carrying with me for years and no one is able to answer me Teacher, I hope that you will answer me and resolve all my doubts. Thanks in advance

Oh wow, thank you! I stopped teaching online last year, but now am back in Hong Kong (at least for awhile) and funny you should ask because I'm considering starting classes again! If I start them up again, I'll be sure to post on my channel and fix all the links that are probably broken. 😖

i am a native cantonese hongkonger. let me tell you folks, if you (native english speaking) would like to learn cantonese/chinese, sue is the one! her pronunciations are even better/ more accurate than a lot of native cantonese speaking people with lazy sounds/tones, especially a lot of people cant tell the difference between the L and N sound. sue is fabulous!👍👍

Oh wow!!! Thank you so much!!! I super appreciate the love and support! 🙏❤ I'll be making more teaching videos .... was going to do one on long and short vowels after one of my students in the character class was reading "gaau3" 教 more like "gau3" 救 and I realised (again) how important that extra "a" is in the phonetics! Thank you again!

@@CantoneseCorner See, the difference of the sound “teach” and “save” are so close and you still spend time to correct your students. we can tell you are such a wholehearted and strict teacher doing all these for the students’ sake! A lot of foreigners (or ABC, CBC) can speak fluent Cantonese (but NOT read and write) and doing a lot of videos in youtube to show the fun things about hong kong culture but how many of them are willing to spend time and efforts to study it and find a way to teach and promote? Not many! As we know hong kong is NOT the same hk we know anymore and you have no incentive to do this after you have left. What you are doing is saving our language and culture. Compare to what you have been doing, my comments and little support are nothing! Again if any English speaking people you want to learn Cantonese, sue is the one! I use my head to guarantee you 我用人頭擔保. Yes, you can still be picky and criticize her about this and that but her heart is priceless!

Could you make some videos suitable for primary school kids learning Cantonese? We’re in Northern Ireland.

I would love to -- but not sure how to! 😅 It's been so long since I've taught little children, and would be definitely different than what I'm doing now. What kinds of things are they doing now to learn? What kind of content would you like to see?
@drcynth

@@CantoneseCorner Hi, they are not actively learning that now. I’m a Cantonese speaker but as you said I grew up with it and never been taught it so I have no idea how to teach it. They have tried some apps before but didn’t keep it up. We watch Cantonese movies and shows and listen to Cantonese songs. They enjoy these but never picked up the language. I really don’t know what content to suggest.

@@drcynth I suppose to really pick it up, they need to use it, so what about making a game of it or role playing? As in learning vocabulary and phrases for say, shopping, and then role playing being at the store and then having to use these phrases? Or making a simple board game of chutes & ladders, where some of the spaces they land on require picking a card with a Canto phrase/word on it that they they have to use or an English sentence/phrase that they then have to translate or vice versa? If they get it right, they climb the ladder -- if they get it wrong, they go down the chute. Of course, then they would need to learn either jyutping or the characters themselves. I made something like this for teaching Hong Kongers English and we had a lot of fun with it! :) It would also be important to know if you want them to learn Jyutping, Yale and/or characters. I hope this helps!! 💞

Youncan.help.students of Mandarin and other dialects together, by showing equivalent sounds in M. /C? etc, For example. Mathews Chinese Dictionary shows which. characters in M pronunciations also in. C. etc modern dialects still use final.k p t Mr. M. unfortunately. does not specify which of 3 applies to any 1 character so then to find C. character dictionaries. with C. character pronunciation, then one can learn C. and M sounds and tones for same 1 character. JIa you/Ga yau. Zhu, n I hao yunqi!!! / Juk, nei houi wanhei!!! I . . and one can then match M. and C. equivalents
