Great video, I suppose it boils down to if you enjoy driving and the freedom it gives and like cars you are more likely to pass, also if you are like me I get nervous, tests are always a nightmare for me, I think its important people just go into it enjoying it and treat it like driving generally and then you won't be as nervous. When I was younger I had problems in my head, now I am more settled and more experienced at life so arent so nervous about things. If you enjoy something you always do better at it, and if you dont enjoy driving generally you probably shouldnt do it! I still have nerve and phtsical problems but I am much more cool about it and just take each day it comes. But driving it like any thing if you enjoy it you will love learning about it

Surely it's not safe to do a show me question when driving at 70mph? I'd have wanted to keep full concentration on the road ahead / prevent swerving.
@AdvanceDrivingSchool
5 жыл бұрын
Possibly - although in ‘real life’ we may need to do these things on a dual-carriageway, so why not!
@keith6400
5 жыл бұрын
So in theory at 70mph if the examiner says "Show me how to wash the front windscreen" and the candidate cannot do this because it is a bit too dangerous potentially causing swerving. What would be the real life situation at 70mph if a large vehicle suddenly covered one's windscreen in detritus making it impossible to see anything. How exactly would one ignore this and concentrate on the road which we can no longer see?
@hutchrivers2912
5 жыл бұрын
@@keith6400 Putting your windscreen wipers on doesn't change your line of vision like pressing a button does. In my test, I was asked a show me tell me question and I simply said "I'll do it in a sec" as she asked me to do it when I was going round on a blind bend. She said it was fine to do so. It just depends if it's safe enough to follow the show/me Q. In real life, there's less pressure to pass/examiner, etc. so obvs you'd be able to direct your attention away from what's in front of you in order to press a button or whatever.

As what Advance Driving School mentioned, in real life we may need to do these things on dual-carriageway which happened to me just yesterday on my driving lessons. I was driving at a national speed limit road then it just started raining heavily. The downpour is starting to affect my visibility of the road and my instructor asked me to turn on the wipers which I did. I know the wipers are not part of the Show Me questions but it is part of the ancillary controls of the car. The whole point of the Show Me questions is you should know the ancillary controls of your car should you need to operate them when needed (be it on 20, 30, 40 or 70mph), and of course, when it is safe to do so.

5:02 - I have a question... my girlfriend is getting ready for her practical exam soon so she pointed out this clip and asked why fault was given. I have 12 years driving experience and cats A, B, BE and C and I cannot find any valid rule or answer why fault was given. I would understand if the light would have been flashing amber, or just turned green - the reasoning would be that pedestrian started crossing through the green signal and was just completing the crossing. That is fine - you should always allow pedestrians (and other cars) to complete crossing IF THEY STARTED CROSSING DURING PERMITTED SIGNAL. In this case it is clear that it was greed light for the car and it was red light for pedestrian - he was not permitted to cross and clearly entered the crossing on the red signal. In such case it does not matter if he is half way the crossing - his crossing was invalid from the beginning. On the other hand driver would have to brake sharply during green signal and on the turn/exit from roundabout thus creating dangerous situation for car behind her. Am I missing something here?
@AdvanceDrivingSchool
4 жыл бұрын
It was an unusual situation, but the Highway Code says that a green traffic light means go if it is safe to do so (i.e. there are not pedestrians crossing) and there is space for your vehicle on the other side of the junction. The pedestrian was visible well before we left the roundabout, so there was no need to brake suddenly.
@ramithrasnayake5463
4 жыл бұрын
@@AdvanceDrivingSchool You must admit that you missed the plot there when doing the video. Now that it is in the video you cannot undo it. The pedestrian was not in the road so there was no need to stop and wait... if she suddenly slowed down, you would have caught her out for sudden braking and causing a pile up behind...
@AdvanceDrivingSchool
4 жыл бұрын
@@ramithrasnayake5463 The pedestrian was visible well before we left the roundabout, so there was plenty of time to brake smoothly and allow the pedestrian to finish crossing the road. It doesn't matter whether the traffic lights were green, amber or red - the Highway Code says the crossing must still be clear for us to cross it.

I failed again on my driving test, this was the reason. I was asked to take the right exit on both upcoming roundabouts. I completed the first roundabout perfectly but instead of staying in the right lane I indicated left, checked my mirrors and moved over. My examiner panicked as he thought I was going to collide with the car behind me as he thought I didn’t check my mirrors. I remember definitely checking my mirror there but he has decided to give me a serious fault therefore I failed. I did however move over to the right after I realised I should’ve stayed there. Do you think I deserve a fail for that ? I personally think it’s a bit unfair.

Do you need to indicate every time you pull away or past a parked car when you are over taking it. She indicated round a car and I think it was necessary but how do you know if you need to? Thanks! Got my test in three weeks you’re videos are great!

We can’t cross a pedestrian crossing until it is clear. Squeezing past people just isn’t safe!

Advance Driving School but if she could cross the traffic light without causing any harm to the pedestrian, was it not better than stopping there and avoiding another car of hitting her back? It was a short entrance to that road, she was almost in the roundabout.
@AdvanceDrivingSchool

No, the Highway Code says we can only cross a pedestrian crossing when it’s clear - just in case something unexpected happened. There was plenty of time to stop the car smoothly, just as you would have to when the traffic lights turn red.

Crossing with a green light is a serious fault they should put pedestrians stop light it's ridiculous even blinking light or early warning it would cause accident behind me if i will let the pedestrians pass..

I failed my test again today 1s and 3 minors! I stopped at the roadside and I saw a car stopped behind. I think he is stopping for me to move so I move off. However that car is actually overtaking me and stopped due to oncoming traffic. Arrrrrrh!

@AdvanceDrivingSchool

The red arrow is a compass, showing the direction we were heading at that time. It’s taken from the GPS data the camera records.

The examiner won’t care which steering technique you use, as long as the car is in the correct road position at all times.

I've noticed she consistently has only one hand on the steering wheel....I was told I'd fail for that? I have my test in July and had to pay £150 just to get a slot so watching these videos will hopefully support me
@AdvanceDrivingSchool

We would always try to steer with both hands whenever possible - but on the test the examiner can only give faults if your car is out of position. Essentially they only care where you steer, not how you steer.

Hello, thank you very much for your material, advice and support. Just one question because I got confused: at 25 'Annabel needed to take the second exit at the roundabout and use her right hand on the road to do it. I thought that the 12 o'clock rule indicates that for the first and second exit you must use the left side ... Please, if you can give a clarification on this point I thank you in advance. Once again, I really appreciate her support and material.

Wasn't that a bit short? Normally about 40 minutes and obviously it can depend on traffic as to how quickly the independent driving is got through but the rest could be extended...was it because she had already failed or would that have been adequate for a test?
@AdvanceDrivingSchool
5 жыл бұрын
We cut out the start of the test a little, but yes it was probably a little on the short side. If this happens on a real test the examiner will add a little onto the route to ensure it lasts at least 36 minutes.

The examiner doesn't mind how you steer, so long as the car is always in full control. Saying that, we prefer to steer our car like this: Steering around tight corners: kzitem.info/news/bejne/tZl6zGZqonV3lWk 👍🏼

Why do we I have to stop at the pedestrian crossing even if the traffic light is green. There was a cyclist waiting at the crossing after the roundabout and traffic light was green but you marked serious fault for this. I’m confused because my instructor said you don’t have to wait on the pedestrian crossing if the light is green but you should slow down in case light changes to red.
@AdvanceDrivingSchool

We can only cross a pedestrian crossing when our light is green, and the crossing is clear. If there is anyone on the crossing we must wait.
