Thanks for the video. I never knew self-propelled oil pumps came in so many different versions.

66-69 flat side generator shovel heads were the last old H-Ds made A MF bought the company in 69 70 was the first year of the stater bottom end . The shovel head was a hemi Head motor and would show it's true potential when the cylinder heads were dual plugged with the correct upgrades on the internals could be classified a beast. And it was the longest production engine to date that Harley made . Ah but what the hell do I know I'm a retired Harley builder of 25 years and I'm 66 years old. Still got my first one a 68 flh plus a 95 Evo and a 05 twincam. Great video nice to see someone trying to educate others. 👍

That's very awesome and thank you for teaching me this!!! I'd say a 25 year Retired Harley builder would know quite a bit...probably have forgotten more then I've learned 😉...Btw I roll a 05 twin cam also, the black and yellow roadglide in the video is my sled!! Thanks man

1985 was the last year of Shovelhead production. HD completed Government contracts with Shovelhead engines in 1985. Those motorcycles were not made available for retail sale, but they show up from time to time on the used market. There is a picture in the HD museum of Willie G standing next to the last production Shovelhead engine with a sign reading 1985.

Nice video, I wonder why "Blockhead" never caught on for the Evo? You're right I've only seen it in writing, I've never heard anyone actually call their bike a blockhead.

Maybe cause it almost sounds insulting, like I feel like calling a person a blockhead would be rude lol. Thanks for watching man

@@Americanmotorcycleexperience Flathead, L head, and that German V-Rod thingy. Harley made their first V-Twin in 1908. The 1936 Knucklehead was NOT their first V-Twin! You have never ridden a Harley until you ride a 74ci flathead. You missed the important part of the Knucklehead. At the time it was the first super bike the average person could afford. It was the first year and model to have a enclosed and recirculating oil system. The Knucklehead had almost twice as much HP as the 74ci Flathead. And yes, Harley made a super bike. Not the first super bike, the first affordable super bike. So next time a man bun wearing soy boy on a pink crotch rocket pulls up next to your Harley, think this. Be the old wise wolf gazing at your great great grandson with ribbons in his styled fluffy fur. If Harley had not built the first affordable super bike...............

@@gregmoyers7757 awwwww ok, yes ì totally purposely skipped those because they weren't "in my view" part of the genealogy, more like spin offs ans in my viewpoint the flathead was the beginning but not part of what I wanted to share. I plan on a while different view on that and definitely the Vrod thingy

@@Americanmotorcycleexperience I had a V-Rod. The engine was great! The bike around it not so great. Harley had racing success with the Flathead all the way into the early '70s. Never with any other engine since. I don't call the drag "Harleys" Harleys, their engines have been modified way farther than the factory ever has. And the chassis on each is a custom one off build.

@gregmoyers7757 your absolutely correct about drag engines...alot of performance harleys now are getting pretty wild also. I've never rode a V-Rod and would really like to.
