I'm so glad I found your channel! I've been studying Spanish for 2 years and for immersion I'm always listening to music. I have found that the music that fits my vibe the most and makes my car speakers knock is Dembow....but some of the lyrics have me confused at times. Thanks for putting some of it in context for me!

Hey charisa how's your studying going. I grew up in the spanish culture since a teenager and been self teaching myself since. I'm pretty advanced (not speaking it) just how much I know but it's alot of words I'm still hearing for the first time ...💁🏾♂️

You’re a very good teacher. That being said, I’m legit ready to give up. This was sooo much easier when I was younger. I hired a tutor and it was pointless. I canceled the service and decided to go about it solo. Mind you, I sound so American when I speak it’s embarrassing. Just in these streets sounding like a whole damn dummy 🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️ and everyone I speak with sounds different because they’re from different places. 😫

i think now you have to go back to WHY you wanted to learn it in the first place. sometimes if you lose your aim/goal you will take loses in a worse way than usual. sometimes if you lose that goal completely you can feel what ur doing is pointless. anyways rambling aside i hope it goes well for u!

Keep it going. The swag (cadence and accent) will come with your comfort within the language. If you read, trying reading in the accent while speaking in your usual cadence. You’ll notice your accent poking through in normal speech.

Hola.

@@roelvisgrullon8696 Hello thank you for replying. OK. So for example in English, I will say things like "sweet heart", "sweet baby", "snookie cookie", "boo bear", "bubbzy", "pookie", "sweetums", "pookie bear", "doll face". These are typical expressions in used in the Black American South, mainly "pookie" and "sweetums". So I am looking for some terms that are for sure Dominican so that I can impress him. Thank you again for replying.

It also means the same in DR. Just when you put it in a specific context, it means problem. When you want it to mean stupid, you use it in these examples: “No seas tan bobo y hablas con ella” or “déjate de boberias”. Now when you want it to mean problem, you say things like: “Salí con Jennifer y ahora me dice que ‘ta embarazada.

@@Poppi_Weasel I don’t know about that one. You’d be surprised how many unsolved cases of someone dying pop up every year. No one is forcing you to go to DR (or any other foreign country) if you don’t want to go. But the point is, as long as you know how to move smart, be aware of your surroundings, do research, be respectable and not overly loud and flashy, you are likely to have a good experience without any issues.
