2 years late here but this video just popped up in my feed. Just like you in this video, I get really nervous and shaky when I go to practice. I go to a trail that spans the state of Maryland and Pennsylvania and have to drive there and my heart starts getting flustered even before arriving there in my car. I’ll ride for a few miles taking it nice and easy while getting warmed up and then I’ll start my wheelie practice. I’ve made some great improvements just in the past few weeks but last year I hardly made any improvements at all and I fell backwards twice and both times was really bad because I didn’t realize I could just bail and jump off. That’s why I get so nervous to practice and hitting that balance point is very difficult because my fear response kicks in before I’m even to the balance point. Yesterday I kept repeating the mantra to just RELAX and keep your head up and shoulders back. It helped so much. I got two or three really nice floaty wheelies while relaxed and went about 40 feet each time. Before I was getting some longer ones but I was clenched on the bars, shoulders and back hunched and was pedaling like mad to keep the front tire up. Good distance but horrible form and uncomfortable and uncontrolled. It’s nice to see someone else practicing as a beginner. Makes me feel like I’m not the only one struggling so thanks! 😆
