¡bien hecho! I am in a similar position to you I have recorded around 650 hours. I used a lot of the same resources as you; what I would suggest though is start looking at grammar now, don't wait until 600 hours. A lot of the Spanish channels fail to realise how accessible English is, so once a Spaniard picks up new words (via comprehensible input) they encounter them all the time in an array of settings, but when the process is flipped for a English speaker you have to try and actively find material (unless you live in a ES country). Once I picked up a grammar book and started understanding the concepts it made my comprehensible input 100X's more effective. Because there are so many words, phrases, etc that can be identified through grammar rules without having heard the word before. This is just my opinion but I seriously regret not 'studying' earlier. My journey is coming up to 3 years and I would say I could have made that 1.5 years if I had watched some dam grammar videos sooner haha. Just my opinion, keep up the good work. :)

Thanks. I agree. I completed Language Transfer - The Thinking Method before starting Comprehensible Input so I understand a lot of the Spanish tenses and grammar. This has helped a lot with the CI. Keep up the good work yourself!

Soy profesor de español desde hace muchos años y admiro tu esfuerzo, pero me temo que solo a base de input no va a ser suficiente. Deberías pasar a una fase de producción (output). Eso es lo que te va a dar fluidez. Por mucho input que recibas no es solo eso lo que debes hacer. ¡Ánimo!

With the compressible input method, you spend many hours just getting the input until it becomes very easy to you and then….you begin reading. After about 5-600 hours is when you should start speaking. The reason for waiting is if you start speaking and reading too early in the process you will automatically revert to pronouncing words that aren’t familiar (or even automatic) in your native language. By delaying speaking and even reading, you acquire the language sounds much quicker. And speaking will be much easier at that point. Dr Stephen Krashen has been researching and refining this method for decades. I took 2 levels of Spanish before I heard of this method and I really wish I had. I’m sure my pronunciation would be much better!

bien hecho. i am trying to learn Español with the same method. so far i have about 50 hours of comprehensible input and i find myself being able to recognize and understand words faster. my friend is at about 600 hours and he is basically fluent. he's made friends with the spanish speakers at his work and he speaks it at an advanced level. so yea, it is very possible. just don't forget to study grammar and vocabulary.

Keep up your comprehensible input. I understand more and more of what I hear. I am at about 475 hours now. Your friend is doing great, speaking at 600 hrs. I am still not at the point where I can speak easily. I had a good understanding of Spanish grammar before I started Comprehensible Input.

Congratulations, really impressive! I’m at almost 150 hours now (but I speak French too and had learned a bit of Spanish before which helps a lot), and I’m also finding that I’m starting to translate in my head more as I recognise more words. I also agree it’s a lot easier to watch for longer at this stage. It’s nice to see similar experiences :)

Thanks. I had tried some other methods of learning Spanish previously, so I knew some words and grammar before starting Dreaming Spanish. But none of them really "clicked" for me and I still could not understand native speakers. With Comprehensible Input, I am listening and understanding (mostly) Spanish speakers every day. Good luck with your Spanish learning!

Thanks. It does take time but I have the time right now. Sometimes I will read the transcript of a podcast while listening to it. I think it helps to hear the correct pronunciation of the words when I am reading them. But when I am watching DS videos, I do not use subtitles.

Siga adelante compa! Yo también uso el método de Pablo de Dreaming Spanish. Tengo un nivel intermedio ahorita después de escuchar unos 600 horas de input comprensible. Un consejo que quiero darte es enfocarte en los sonidos de los vocales en Español. A e i o u. Para sonar más natural y menos gringo

I emailed you a booklet on how parallel Spanish and English words have developed (Eng through the French vocab of the past 900 years), to give you a kickstart on more words and some grammar. As Drew wrote, some grammar now and some reading will help you intellectually, rather than just listening. But both are input and comprehensible. I read a parallel chapter of Russian and English each day, plus some videos each week, etc.

So you've knocked out 400 hours of listening practice in the last year. Do you also do some reading or engage with the language in other ways?
@tinynhhouse5467

I am waiting until I reach 600 hours of listening before I start reading in Spanish. I want to have good pronunciation when I start speaking and Pablo's recommendation is to hold off on reading and speaking until my brain really understands the sounds in Spanish. He has a language learning road map with more info here: dreaming-spanish-emails.s3.us-east-2.amazonaws.com/Language_Learning_Roadmap_by_Dreaming_Spanish.pdf

Have you tried shadowing?
@tinynhhouse5467
Жыл бұрын
I have not tried shadowing yet. I may try it when I have a clearer sense of Spanish sounds inside my head. Then when I start speaking I can compare my spoken words with what they should sound like inside my head and make the needed corrections to my speaking. That is how I understand it from Pablo's method.

I can understand a lot of the Intermediate episodes on DS but there are still many words that I do not understand. I have not tried watching any Advanced episodes yet. I am still listening to about 70% Beginner episodes and 30% Intermediate.
