I’m so glad I bought my Sailrite LSZ1. Received it a few weeks ago been practicing with it, has not let me down. Sailrite is one great company! If you thinking about buying one just do it, you will not be disappointed. Right now I’m practicing sewing some piping on a practice motorcycle seat cover that I just made pleats on. Works like a champ!!

It has been a few years since I had done any upholstery sewing and I just completed a huge project for friend by covering a split bay window cushion. The front edge was about 11 ft long and I installed piping on the top plate and I had to match the stripes in the fabric where the two cushions met in the middle. I would never have had the confidence to tackle this project without watching the videos on your website. Thank you for your help and, if I might say so myself, it turned out great! The family I did this for loves it and now in their eyes I'm the best thing since sliced bread. This was a barter for my sewing desk extension that Alan built and installed for me. I did all the sewing on my vintage Bernina 930 Record and use the zipper foot for installing the piping. Because the material that they purchased raveled so heavily I surged the edges of all the completed seams in the hopes of keeping this cover together for many years. I also created a sort of ticking cover for underneath, that I hand stitched closed, which gave me the opportunity to work out any problem areas before working on The decorator fabric. Discover makes it much easier to remove the fashion fabric to wash it since they have three pups in their family. I had to create the piping by cutting the bias strips myself and the whole process of creating and installing the piping was my favorite part. When I'm ready to reupholster cushions on our lawn furniture I will definitely be shopping your site for fabric.

I make cylindrical bags for a living, and when I sew the circle to the flat side I always have the circle on top as I have better control over the corner. Even though my circles are small (tennis ball size) I do not need to cut the edge of the flat fabric as it is effectively running a straight stitch, while the circle is turning out and so if anything its edge is being compressed- but that is not the case. On other projects sometimes having them the other way is unavoidable, and that is much harder.

I make my own piping and then usually staple it between the 2 plates and sew it all together. I don't sew the piping on to one plate first because you would be sewing it 3 times over one another , the foot just follows the cord every time. Is this something to concern yourself with?

I think this is a helpful tutorial however, regarding the longer piece of fabric on the outside when joining the cord, I would turn it in a few millimeters to avoid a raw edge of fabric from freyin, when sewn over the other piece.
