At the moment I'm in the middle of doing 400 hours of clinical placement in Johannesburg hospital's emergency dept. after finishing the course in Malta to become an Industry Paramedic( remote, offshore etc). Couple days ago we had a resus patient- had to cut all his clothes real quick. I was working with my standard EMT shears. This guy had really thick jeans on him and I was having hard time cutting through them, which actually surprised me because so far I never had a problem with them. It was doable,but a slow job and the guy was dying on us. My friend was busy trying to put a line in patient's hand so I just grabbed his raptors out of his pocket - it was almost like cutting a napkin. They're great. Once I get back home to Europe I have to get a pair as well. As for cleaning them from blood,mud, vomit etc- ( as a reply to one of the previous posters here) - just rinse them thoroughly under the tap, make sure not to miss all the nooks and crannies, wipe everything and then, if you're really worried you can soak them In iodine. You're not performing amputations with them in sterile environment and if some nasty germ will avoid your cleaning efforts because it sits somewhere deep in the hinge- it's so deep you're not going to touch it anyway. I would avoid stirring your drink with them but apart from that you're ok. Don't be to paranoid.

I threw my holster away. It made the same noise yours did when you threw it on the ground. They are TSA friendly. If they inspect it, they discover there is no knife blade and the scissors are blunt tipped and it is under 7" long. Great review.

Have had a pair of these since their release. Have used them in the emergency medical field and have never let me down. If they do start to go dull, get some course steel wool and cut a few pieces of the wool into smaller 1cm squares. Then check the scissors, you'll notice they are sharp again :D Handy little trick that works on other scissors too :D Great review :D

Im a firefighter paramedic and i often use trauma sheers. The Leatherman shears are by far some of the best made shears out there. However, shears by design take to long in the situations i deal with. I personally use the Benchmade 8 Hook for all my clothes cutting needs. Its much faster and not nearly as bulky or heavy as the Raptors.

A little more info on the "holster." The clip is split and spaced for placement on PALS or MOLLE webbing. I know a number of people that run it on their plate carrier. Would also work on a battle belt. Also, it's designed to hold the shears with good retention folded, as you demonstrated, or open. Just wanted to point this all out. It may not have been your intent, but you seemed quite flippant towards the "holster" when it actually has a lot to offer.

I've been looking at that tread for awhile, my main curiosity is around looking good with a watch and how it would have practical uses with the leatherman multitool that I already edc. It would be great to add some capability to that particular real estate on my body but I just want to make sure 1. That's it's easy to use with any watch face that I'd want to add it to. 2. That it would be easy to use and reassemble and 3. That it looks good because as we all know, looking good is the main priority. Without that nothing else matters.....

I just can't see myself carrying a set of scissors this large for EDC considering I'm not an EMT. At around half the size you can carry a pair of Klien communications scissors that easily cut pennies in half, strip wire, cut fabric, paper, aluminum and copper flashing, and even small tree branches. They are made from stainless steel with blades as hard as woodpecker lips...and the only pair I ever broke was one I was using a a crowbar and the tip broke off a blade. You can often find them cheaper then the link I have provided this was just an easy place to link to. Ok... a bit of background before i comment. I am a trauma and advanced cardiac life support certified RN in a busy ER and while I agree they are great... i dont own a pair for personal use. I cant foresee coming across anything in my personal time that a cheap pair of trauma shears couldn't handle. While they are probably the best pair of shears ive ever used, they are expensive and excel at repeated use for the medical professional. For the price i have multiple pairs of cheap shears scattered amongst my multiple med kits. Just my .02

I think these are awesome, but non-disposable medical supplies are a real easy way to lose a lot of money in an emergency. God forbid you have to, for example, use these shears to get somebody's clothes off who has been severely cut or impaled. Now the fancy expensive shears are covered in somebody's blood and may be unable to be sterilized.
@danhatterer4569
7 жыл бұрын
NotHunterCooper that's why you glove up and decontaminate them. Mine have been covered in everything from blood to puke. Take the time to decontaminate them properly as well as lube them you won't have a problem.

I'm a fan of the channel but I gotta say I think these are kinda pricey. If I was a paramedic or deployed as a medic again I'd prolly get them but for the average person I think trauma shears are more than enough and 1/4 the price.
@LastLineOfDefense

Yeah I somewhat agree - but these are higher quality than any other shear out there, and have quite a few other uses that a standard pair of shears do not.
