Taking over an estate can be a Herculean task and answers to otherwise simple questions are hard to come by. Where are the assets located? Who is on the title? Is there a beneficiary? What about that insurance policy from twenty years ago? Do I receive any portion of the pension? What bills are there? Are they withdrawn automatically, and from which account? Unfortunately, there are often more questions than answers. It is incredibly helpful if you write down a snapshot of what you have -- a treasure map, of sorts. By leaving a list of your assets, liabilities, bills, and location of important documents, things will be so much easier on those charged with taking over your estate.
