Before the subject arises, I would like to comment. We understand that the dynamic increase of those relocating into Austin and Texas in general has created many changes for those that live locally - from development, home prices, socially, and many have mentioned politically. Although I personally cannot control most, I can say that my family and I have come into this State humbly and have a tremendous respect for all things 'Texas'. We left a State we have known for many reasons ....and do not wish for our new home State to become what we had left. Thank you to those that have welcomed us, we appreciate the Texas Spirit of hospitality and kindness.

@@ehren5347 Honestly if you’re worried about the political and economic landscape of the area due to the influx of people, rather than putting down all the new people who are moving, it’s waaay more productive to educate them on what are the existing policies and perspectives that make the area what it is. Why are there good schools? How is the state fully-funding them? What makes Austin great for businesses? Why doesn’t the state have income taxes and where is it getting the budget to fund the growth in infrastructure, etc. What are the pros and cons to having no state income tax, how does it affect the sales and property taxes in the area, etc? Where else is the revenue stream for the state of Texas that it can fund all the other social programs like schools, health care, police, etc.? If we all talk about and understand the correlation between policies and the effects of those policies in the area instead of a blanket statement like “dont bring your policies to us so dont vote!”, but rather talk about policy and educate ourselves about the pros and cons, then we can create a better political and economic climate that can work for everyone. People get soooo blinded by the blues and the reds like they’re some sports team. It’s supposed to be about policy, how it’s implemented, and how it aligns with what’s important to you, not what color club you belong to.

@@neycongjuico7395 That sounds like great idea in a Utopia. The truth of the matter is that people's views are their identities and they have an almost 0% chance to change. I think it is better to just make people from California hate Texas as much as possible so they move back to their dystopia woke state. Your whole response is literally why I hate people from California and the west coast in general.

@@ehren5347 For the record, I’m in Kansas City, smack dab in the middle of the midwest. You don’t need to be in a utopia to find people who are willing to have that discussion. We have made so many life-long friends and can't think of raising our daughter anywhere else. We dont live in Austin, but we love where we are. The cost of living is wonderful. There would have been no way that we could have afforded our huge home, our daughter's private school that offers one-to-one lessons while immersing her in a second language, or just the daily cost of living which is so much cheaper here. No regrets here!

We are planning to move out of California and Austin is our number one city. I lived in Dallas for almost 7 years in the 90s and I have many friends there from work. I remember always saying "I like Dallas but I'd love to live in Austin". There is a different vibe in Austin, younger, more laidback. Nature-wise, Austin is way more luscious than Dallas and that always attracted me. Now, we are looking at houses to rent first and then possibly buy. Schools are important since we have a 9-year-old. Hopefully, we will be there by the end of the summer! Thanks for all the information!

Thanks for the helpful insight, Soomin! I myself am a Korean American who grew up all over the US (mainly the east coast) and just bought a home this year in Orange County, CA. I am now looking to move to Austin, TX once I sell my home in California, but had a few questions about life in Austin that you haven't mentioned. I am in my 20's and single, and one thing that I've loved about living in Orange County, CA is the vibrant dating scene especially with the proximity to LA and San Diego, making it heaven for a young single professional like myself, especially as a male from the Asian community. Do you think that Austin, TX would have offer anything remotely close to the dating scene I've experienced in Southern California? Hope you understand that for a young single male like myself, this is definitely a factor in making a decision on relocating out of Southern California. Cheers, and happy holidays to you and your family!

Thanks for sharing this video. My partner and I visited Austin a few days ago, and we loved it! We moved from San Francisco, CA, to Fort Worth, TX. This is has been an adjustment for us the last two years, especially for me since I have been using public transportation for a while. Fort Worth lacks public transportation, and there are few things to do. On the opposite, Dallas has a lot to offer, but it can be overwhelming and not very laidback. Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex is not as welcoming, laidback, and walkable as Austin. Also, the scenery in Austin seems different, too, with lots of nature. To all Californians, not all Texan's cities look like Austin. I am just saying, be aware of that!

Hey Soomin, your channel has really inspired me to consider living in Austin Tx. I live in Northern California and am just sick of living here. I can't afford any home here and the area where I live has gone crazy post pandemic. I love the homes that you show in the area and am looing for a place with a very large garage space, like a barn home or something like that. Let me know if you know of any homes like this in the Austin area. Thanks.

My kids an I moved from Balboa Peninsula 10 years ago, as I was very sick and could not work & therefore could not pay my mortgage. I am a Vet, NP, & had lived in San Antonio. We're in Waco and really like it. We looked from San Antonio, all the way to DFW! Austin new construction (which I didn't want to live in a subdivision with HOAs.) I do not know if this is still the same, but all the brand new construction:which was almost completed, Round Rock was the Whitest City of similar size and growth in the US! Be careful if that is something that would bother you

If you haven't been to Georgetown, bring the kids and go to the Blue Hole. It offers nice swimming in the cool river, and picnic areas. Downtown Georgetown is pretty cool too. One thing to contemplate... Military members have to change duty stations often... Imagine being forced to leave everything you know every 3 to 4 years.. As a native Texan/Austinite (who's currently residing in CA because, now that we're retired, we can't afford to move back home where both hubby's & my family live) Austin has become a ridiculously expensive place to live. & Leander is near the top if not at the top of that list, particularly because of the property taxes (thanks to Leander ISD). We in northern/central coast California where it's cheaper to live than in Austin, sadly (don't know abt Orange County). It's nice you like the area, but we remember when Austin was an affordable place to live & you didn't have to worry that you might be evicted from your home because you could no longer afford the property taxes. Ex: daughter's home went from about 500k to almost $2M in value in just a few yrs. How will they afford those taxes? Retired brother's home increased over $200k in appraised value in 1 yr; how's a retired person to pay taxes when appraised value goes from a little over $400k to over $600k in 1 year. The entire state has gone nuts, inless you live in the boonies or are a squatter!
@SoominKimRE
2 жыл бұрын
Hi Jane, I would assume and you may ask your family if they have filed their homestead exemption. Something offered to most all residents and property owners, though their home may have increased in value the exemption will not allow their taxes to increase more than 10% even if their home increases far greater. Ask them about it, they may be quite happy! With regards to your life in northern and central coast, that is some of the most appreciated real estate as well. I believe there may be someone saying the exact sentiment right now about their beloved central coast, sadly. Maybe someone that left central California to move to Texas and cannot move back "home" due to the rising cost..... I think the point of my response is a rising tide brings in all ships and real estate increases and has increased over time. There is a story for everyone who feels "priced out" for an area...... me included.

We enjoyed this commentary. It reassured us once again that we made the right decision to move to Austin and start our own family, even when it meant leaving all family behind who are based in Cali (LA & The Bay). Although we've only been here a few months & still settling in, we've had very similar experiences and anxieties that you both describe. However, the community surrounding us has also reassured us that it was the best decision we could have made to start our family here. Made so much more financial sense to get a brand new home here and not have to spend 800k in Nor Cal for an old 2 bed room condo! Never been to Austin previously but the 1st time here was the trip to come and close on the new properties and it definitely feels like the right long term investment. Looking forward to our our 1 yr anniversary too!
