We left Charleston at 6 am with our buddy boat Sandy Paws. We were trying to avoid the shallows of Isle of Palm and Mathews Cut. Our 2 other buddy boats, Okie Hokie and Midnight Rambler left an hour later at 7am.
A predicted patchy fog was rolling in when we left. Unfortunately it soon became very dense fog with almost zero visability. It lasted a horrible 3 hours. We lost sight of our buddy boat but kept in close radio contact. Our other buddy boats also faced the horrible fog..even leaving an hour later.
We hit a sand bar in Bob 423 alternate track around Isle of Palm. Because we were going sooo slow, our boat's turning radius was too wide causing us to be slightly off course and run aground. Fortunately we did not sustain any damage.
The fog lifted at 9am and we had a beautiful trip the rest of the day. We saw many dolphin again!! And battle the flies in the Waccamaw River.
We stopped at Wacca Wache Marina in Murrels Inlet . Here is where we renewed our wedding vows. 25 years of wedded bliss!! We spent a day at the Marsh Walk in Murrels Inlet walking around and having dinner at Wicked Tuna. Dinner was great. The rest of our trip was pretty uneventful.
We made it home safe and sound back in Wilmington NC.
