This has been very interesting. I don't know if Sam remembers David Steed who died recently in a dirt bike accident but I'm his sister. I was a neighbor across the street from his family before my father died. My father is Gerald Steed.. After my father died when I was 11 years old Sam's family moved in our house and our world turned upside down when we moved over to Samuel Barlow's house. I became Sam Barlow's 8th wife at the age of 16 and I have a very bad taste in my mouth against polygamy now. Before I thought it really was the purest way to live cause I had a great childhood. I have just recently left the flds after trying and trying to find happiness by trying to do the impossible. I'm now working on a healing process along with my 15 year old son who is very confused cause that's the only life he knew, one with strict rules and fear to make mistakes cause there's tough consequences. I hope I can teach him that having fun isn't all bad and humans make mistakes but we can learn from our mistakes and not be afraid that God will hate us forever. I also hope he can learn to love other people no matter their beliefs or how they dress or the color of their skin.

A couple corrections: Thanks Sam, you keep a great outlook on it all! I enjoy the channel! Your life sounds real similar to mine. My father was excommunicated by Warren(when Rulon Jeff's was still alive). I wanted to mention, there was a lot of people in Canada that stayed with Warren when the group split after Rulon Jeff's died. And they continued living up there. Also, Leroy Johnson never appointed Rulon Jeff's as "the next Prophet" but he only became so by being the next in seniority of ordination. Meaning, when a prophet dies, the next man who was ordained to be an apostle after him becomes the senior and therefore takes charge. So while there can be multiple apostles, the one who was ordained first is the leader. That is how they were historically chosen but fun fact: Warren Jeff's was never ordained to that. He just weaseled himself in as the next prophet and claimed to us that his Father had appointed him.

Having grown up in the LDS church and understanding that some people follow the church because it’s what they were born into. My question is who is the current prophet and how are so many still “faithful” with all of the history plainly seen by so many. Idk if that makes sense but I see so many while traveling up through central Utah and it’s confusing. Thanks guys. Ps this is mark phillips

Hi Mark! Even with Warren Jeffs in prison, he remains their prophet. They refuse to believe what the media and other sources say about Warren and still believe he is a good man called of God. They just believe this is a trial that they must be faithful through. They believe that one day God will allow him to be released from prison to return to "his people". Thanks for the great question.

I have been a subscriber for some time but I am catching up with your videos. I found this from your FAQ video list in video summary for Netflix documentary. I was trying to find some older videos I recalled seeing and I checked for PLAYLIST in your channel, which might help organize your videos, and noticed you don’t use playlists. I wanted to suggest you create several playlists. A video can be linked in more than one playlist AND you can link to other channels. You could have playlist on FLDS v. lDS, “reaction video” playlists, collaboration playlists (where you can also link the connected videos from the other YT member with whom you are collaborating; church hierarchy videos; your bio-family videos; videos about exits, etc. these are just some ideas and I think it would help with cross-promotion in your channel.

What happens if the prophet dies unexpectedly and hasn’t named a successor?
@GrowingUpinPolygamy
3 жыл бұрын
Great question! So when a prophet dies, even if it is expected, men high in the church will claim that he told them personally that they were supposed to be the next prophet. There are often multiple people that claim that they are next in line, which is how the Centennial Hills group in AZ split from the FLDS. When Leroy Johnson died Rulon Jeffs claimed he was supposed to be the next prophet. A lot of people believed him, but a group split off following a different prophet who claimed to be next in line.

My Father is currently "separated" from the family, meaning that the prophet said that he is not allowed to live with his wives or children. It has been years now, and he is still separated. He lives near them and can see them, just not live with them. I don't really have a big opinion on the shows. I've seen some of them and they share lots of different experiences that lots of people have had. I think sometimes they are a little bit more dramatic for television, but most of the time they seem to be accurate from what I have seen. There is also a huge difference in the lifestyles depending on what polygamous group people are a part of, which leads to a lot of variety on those types of shows.
