Well done Brad, nicely explained, I've been running Lectron for 5 years, 2 on my yz250(07woods modified PNW style), then last 3 on my YZ250X, awesome, close to twice the fuel economy, and sick low end for up here in the greasy woods! cheers bro!

Danny I am running a 2001 rm 250, it has a weighted flywheel, a new top end, gnarly pipe. Pretty much is setup for more low end than top end. The bike was built by a guy who set it up fo gncc. I bought it from a guy who purchased the bike and couldn't handle the power. My issue is that I think this kid messed with the jets in it, it is a rocket on wheels from low to high it pulls the front wheel in fourth with no clutch just like it does in third. My issue is fuel consumption, I get about 45 minutes of ride time out of a tank of fuel and alot of splooge out the silencer, I have to repack my silencer every 8-10 hours because the oil burns the packing out of it. Since you have a lot of experience, do you think I could get the same performance with this carb without the fuel consumption or burned up packing everytime I turn around?

I'm not sure what your riding, about the same, my 2015 fuel injected yz250fx burned about the same amount of fuel as my 17 yz250x with lectron carb on same loops up here in hard enduro PNW woods, my yz250x with lectron burned 1.1 gallons on same loop as stock Keihin burned 2.1

Have one on a DR650. Took 45 min to get it dialed in but bulletproof ever since. The peace of mind knowing there will be no fiddling with the stock carb no matter where I ride is good enough - add in the engine performance and I would never not have a lectron if I had the option.

I've had my Lectron on my Beta 300RR Race edition for a little over 2 years now and love it. Here in Utah I ride from 3k to 11k ft and have never had an issue. The bike runs great everywhere and every season. If course at elevation especially above 8k you will notice a power drop but any naturally aspirated engine will lose power due to the lack of oxygen in a given volume of space.

@Keith Peterson OK as I don't have dyno results personally to back up my statement, it might be fairer to say that the Lectron that is set up correctly does not have to be rejetted or retuned for changing conditions. If a standard carb in a perfect controlled environment is tuned to peak performance then I could accept the possibility that they might out perform the Lectron. But out in the real world when comparing lap times, the Lectron usually wins, and you don't have to mess with jetting ever again. Plus it gets way better fuel mileage, which for XC races and trail/fun riders is a big deal. Even if I had to trade off a slight HP loss, knowing the Lectron is dialed in for any condition I will ride in vs having to change out jets on a standard carb is worth the trade off for me.

Why is the Lectron needle/jet and different than any other needle/jet system such as mikuni (other than the lectorn being half-moon shaped - certainly that alone could not be enough otherwise all carb manufacturers would be doing the same)? The mikuni has a main jet to limit the max flow but otherwise, other than at full throttle, neither the mikuni or lectron are doing anything but limiting fuel through the needle jet and jet needle aren't they? Just looking for clarification.

Rookie Wrenching the technology is simple but it’s quite expensive to build the carb...they’re all custom ordered and built to the specs of each order. The thing is that a lot of the components like the metering rod are not off the shelf like jets would be. They all must be ground to very tight tolerances at Lectron and quality control checked. Now a video on how they’re produced would be interesting!

Put a new spark plug in it, ride it around under half throttle for 10 minutes and check the plug. If it is black, you need to lean out the metering rod on the slide by turning it counter clockwise. (Start with a half turn. Then get another plug and run it above half throttle for 5-10 minutes then check the plug and adjust the power jet accordingly.

I don't really get it... You said Lower elevation, colder temps, more dense air, stronger fuel signal, more fuel used. (Same at higher ekevation) But doesn't this theoretically also happens inside normal carbs? And why haven't the manufatures switched to lectrons? I mean, they are cheaper than most keihin/mikuni carbs and apparently work better.

@nickopedia5669
4 жыл бұрын
Hard to say if they're actually cheaper, as that depends on how big lectron wants to grow, and how low of a price they're willing to drop to. Keihin/Mikuni have the advantage of economies of scale when they produce thousands of basically the same carbs for all the motorsports industries with minor variations for each OEM, and I wouldn't be suprised if they were sold for maybe $100-$200 each. Also, the Keihin/mikuni carbs for waverunners and jetskis offer a lot of adjustability between the varying high/low jets and screws, throttle plate angle coverage for when to activate the high/low jets, additional emulsion holes, vacuum discs and adjustable pop pressures to give a little "pump" with each revolution of the motor for actual RPM-based tuning rather than just flow tuning, etc. They are EXTREMELY tuneable from an OEM's perspective.

Hello Brad So far the best video explaining the lectron carb. I have a question for you. I have a Husqvarna te 300 2017 and I installed a lectron on it. I am very happy with the bike but I get fouled spark plugs all the time. I have to change the spark plug after every single ride. (4 hours) . The carb was supposed to be ready to use and I haven´t touch it. Do you think it is too rich and I should lower the metering rod? Thank you!!
@stickbeard
5 жыл бұрын
Not Brad, but I own a Lectron. You should not be fouling plugs with this carb. If your plug is wet and black, then you need to shorten the rod by at least one full turn. Just make sure you keep the flat part of the rod towards the engine. Just follow the Lectron instructions. I think they come rich from Lectron for liability reasons - too lean can cook the motor. You might have to make a few tweeks, but once it is set, you will never have to worry about it. I run my 2018 YZ250x at 65 to 1 Motol 800 and it runs great. Put in a new top end at 65 hours, and the cylinder looked perfect. Piston looked great too, but I think the rings were getting a little worn as it had a little more power after the top end. Fine tune the rod length buy looking at your plug, how it sounds and how it feels. Then it is set. Lectron does not know what oil mix you have or type of fuel used, so usually it is NOT spot on out of the box, but then again, no carb ever is.

Ricardo Cuetara yeah you’re definitely too rich! Although, that’s odd that it’d be so rich that you’re fouling plugs at all. I’ve never fouled a single plug in my life. I run the same plug for 200+ hours. Try LENGTHENING thE rod (unscrewing) as the video suggest. Do not make it shorter, that will make it more rich. But there could also be something “wrong” with your bike that’s causing this. Low compression, clogged spark arrestor, etc. the carbs do come tuned for your bike I’m properly running order. It’s possible that there was a slight messuonand it was a little rich from the box. Play around with it. Lengthen it 1/4 turn at a time and see how it feels. Do a plug reading each time.

stickbeard thanks for responding to him. I agree with what you say although you were backwards on your suggestion to shorten the rod! That would make it more rich....

Hi there, I've put a new lectron on my son's 2023 yz 125. We're having an issue with the bike running on into the corner when u let off the throttle, it just randomly hangs up the revs just a little. Checked the basics throttle tube and cable slide didn't stick until it's running. Any ideas?

Ok, so I'm pretty stupid but I'm about to buy a lectron for my 17' yz 250. Anything else I will need to buy to put it on?
