Writing out a manuscript is essentially like practicing the sermon. It helps you absorb the spirit of the material and get it in you.

I do full manuscript in the Bible College. I do some outlines now, and getting it to my heart. And, together with the guidance and the empowerment of the Holy Spirit, it's always powerful! Sometimes I also have no outline at all or nothing at all - but God has put it in my heart. This is not laziness, because many times I was called to preach on the spot.

This is the MOST helpful teaching of any, from anyone, on preparing to preach for the first time. I cannot thank you enough Dr. Piper. I owe you a huge hug.

Pastor John is definitely one of a kind. It's funny because he did so well going through all these bullet points that leaves me wondering if he was reading a teleprompter or some giant white card board notes lol. This caliber of spiritual wisdom is hard to come by these days, may God bless him with many more healthy years among us. "He that walks with wise men shall be wise" ( Proverbs 13:20 )🙏🏼

I've tried preaching without notes for two Sundays now - The benefits are that I have definitely prayed more and sought to put the beauty and glory of the text into my heart before I preached. But on the negative side, it was really hard to find a logical 'flow' of thought in my sermon or to make very detailed and practical applications to people's lives. So I agree with Piper - Know yourself!

@@simontinashemakuzha Just for interest sake, I've reverted back to the full manuscript again. My mind is too 'muddy' to preach without it and I constantly felt that I fell into a 'rut' like Piper also said. :)

Manuscript prepares ourselves to divinely unlock the more meaningful meaning, idea, theology that arouse the church members to eradicate insufficient devil memory.

I create an outline with additional research notes - but I don’t take anything into the delivery side. Basic outline is memorized; so presented extemporaneously. Certainly not a right or wrong issue - simply a matter of what works effectively for each one.

The less I carry into the pulpit the better the sermon tends to be. To an extent, nothing doesn’t go to hot for me. However I rarely refer to notes. Know what the text means, draw out the biggest points, keep them on your heart a few days. Then preach

The old saying " The Devil made me do it!" Has been changed by Calvinists to "God made you do it!" That wonderful loving Calvinist teacher John Piper said it best. QUOTE: "God . . . brings about all things in accordance with his will. In other words, it isn’t just that God manages to turn the evil aspects of our world to good for those who love him; it is rather that he himself brings about these evil aspects for his glory (see Ex. @-16; John 9:3) and his people’s good "(see Heb. 12:3-11; James 1:2-4). "This includes-as incredible and as unacceptable as it may currently seem-God’s having even brought about the Nazis’ brutality at Birkenau and Auschwitz as well as the terrible killings of Dennis Rader and even the sexual abuse of a young child . . RAPE OF CHILDREN......BROUGHT NAZIS .... KILLINGS.... Really John Piper! This is your god that plans the rape of children? " If you call yourself a Calvinist you must stand proud behind these statements! Did you know that this is what Calvinism endorses as your loving god? If this is who you see as god, there is no hope for you! Your in a deadly Cult. TRUTH IN LOVE
