I really applaud you for explicitly stating that using the nonhuman animals as a means to an end is unethical and that it is your personal position. I totally agree and go further to say that there is no ethical justification for the violation of their interests such as subjecting them to deep profound pain. Using moral philosophy, which is a discipline using logic to expose inconsistencies in arguments, all the logic points in the same trajectory that there is no coherent argument for mistreating them. For example, why do humans not want to be tortured? Simply because they feel pain. Well if that is the criterion, certain nonhuman animals feel pain very similarly to humans( which makes sense from an evolutionary perspective, pain is to tell the animal not to do it again or it they die). Therefore, don't torture beings capable of suffering including the nonhuman animals. Another example, Why do would give special protection to young children? Precisely because they cant defend themselves. But when it comes to the nonhuman animals that can't defend themselves, humans take advantage of them ruthlessly. No speciesism. Once again, I think you are a hero for being the voice for the voiceless.

Totally agree John! Admire your altruism to help the helpless unfortunate. I'm happy there are people out there who have the courage to stand up for the non-human animals who can't speak for themselves.

Very helpful. Thank you! But I think if the context of powerpoint move up, it will be better. Because the subtitles will cover the context. English is not my first language and I have to look the subtitles to understand better.

At the beginning of the DNA repair portion of the lecture, around 53:15, you mention that the probability of both DNA strands having a mutation at the same location is virtually 0. How is that probability determined / derived?
