You said that water can passively pass through the membrane, but the inner layers of the membrane are hydrophobic. I think water passes passively through special water pores.

Both are true, Peter. Water is small and only partially charged so it is capable of diffusing across a cell membrane passively, though not at a very high rate. For cells that require water to easily and rapidly diffuse, they must express aquaporins; water channel proteins. These channels then allow the facilitated diffusion of water.

Has this series already concluded? I didn't find fatty acid degradation and biosynthesis in your biochem lectures.
