Royal Street, New Orleans. 7 April 2016. 'Memphis Shake' was recorded by Johnny Dodds and The Dixieland Jug Blowers in 1926. The composer was probably Henry Clifford. Tuba Skinny play it here in the key of F and entirely ensemble - i.e., without any solo choruses:
00:07 INTRODUCTION : 4 bars
00:13 THEME A : 16 bars, notable for the diminished F chord on bars 1, 2, 9 and 10
00:36 THEME A : again
00:59 THEME A : again, but with Craig taking the 'break' on bars 7 and 8
01:22 THEME A : again, but with Tomas taking the 'break'
01:46 THEME B : 16 bars, famous for its long notes in Bars 1 - 4 and 9 - 12 and (usually) for the tremolos played by the strings during those notes
02:08 THEME B : again; you can see Max playing one of the tremolos at 02:20 to 02:25
02:32 THEME A : we are back with the diminished chord theme; Todd taking the 'break' this time
02:55 THEME A : in this final run-through, cornet, clarinet and saxophone collectively take the 'break' on a signal from Shaye. At Bar 15, 03:16, we have a CODA - that neat run of triplets bringing the tune to an end.
