Hello,can you tell me if it is possible to pour epoxy resin straight onto a fine strand of led lights ? I have been working on this project that includes leds and would like to finish it with resin but not sure if the leds would still work Did you add your when the resin had cured ? Thank you .
@PahjoDesigns
5 жыл бұрын
Yes, you can do that and they will still work; however, you cannot change them if the lights go out in the future if they are embedded in resin. Checkout my Instagram page as I have a nifty way of embedding objects in resin while being able to easily change the led strip - @pahjo_designs is my Instagram

Thanks for your videos; they are fantastic.The table i'm working on had a decent amount of epoxy spill over on the surface on the wood. i had used a silicone barrier to prevent if from really spilling on too much area of the boards. This worked but unfortunately has caused the spilled over epoxy to be fairly thick. I'm curious how you'd go about flattening the river / spill over to the same height as the boards. I do not have a planer or drum sander. I have a belt and orbital sander as well as a 2.25 HP router. I'm leaning towards making a router jig to flatten with but the margin for error seems really small. Thanks and any help is greatly appreciated.
@PahjoDesigns

After building at least 70 of these tables, resin spills still happen to me all the time. The best way to do it is with a router/flattening jig or with an electric planer. I have a cheap electric planer that I use for this all the time - here is the link: amzn.to/2Qt6xSl. You can certainly do it with a belt sander, but it will just take a fairly long time. Beware, the planer and router jig make a huge mess so I recommend doing this outdoors if possible. Thanks for watching!!

I’m trying to figure out a way to power the led lights without a cord. Thinking about using a battery pack just not sure which one to go with on a 4ft span with a long battery life span
@PahjoDesigns

I used a 9v battery with a previous project. It requires an adapter and soldering but it worked. kzitem.info/news/bejne/zn6v1omEfZyFnHo I’ve also used this battery pack for an led light costume that worked well: amzn.to/3kvaFDO

I seen tables like this made using polypropylene as a mold. Have you tried it ever? The demonstrations I’ve seen make it look a lot easier. Also have you tried other epoxies like Stone Coat or Glass Cast or Ecocast?
@PahjoDesigns
5 жыл бұрын
charles hetrick - yes, I’ve tried StoneCoat and many others. After testing many molds, I find the best and the cheapest is particle board covered with packing tape and furniture wax on top the packing tape. It’s cheap, reusable, and works very well. Checkout my blog for my other projects using different resins: pahjodesigns.com

Curious if you ran your hand plane over your river or just around it? If you did run it over would you do it again? Did it damage the epoxy finish?
@PahjoDesigns
6 жыл бұрын
I only ran the hand plane around the river. I've done it before and it works, but the dulls the blade rather quickly. It's much easier to use a belt or rotary sander to knock down the resin.

Beautiful job! Great use of reclaimed wood. Curious how you hid the power cord as it can't be seen in that final shot.
@PahjoDesigns
7 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much. The power cord can be detached from the light string when it's not plugged in. In other words, it's not all 1 piece. It's hard to see the cord when the power cord is plugged in because I have it routed to the back of the table and down one leg with the tape/adhesive that came with the LED light set. Thanks again for the compliment. I really appreciate it!

Very interesting to watch this video after just watching the one you made on your last river table. Lots less work and weight without the cement. Do you think it has less possibility of cracking or separating with this version?
@PahjoDesigns
7 жыл бұрын
Hi! Thank you for watching! Yes, much easier to make than the one with the cement bottom! The purpose of the cement was to reflect the river bed/bottom. It turned out ok in the end, but it caused me A LOT more work. Epoxy Resin is very strong and, if applied correctly, will last a very LONG time. I'm confident it won't crack or separate. From what I've witnessed, most people that have problems with Epoxy Resin don't follow the manufacturers instructions. They believe that all Resins can be treated the same and this is not the case - they are all different. Thanks for watching!

So torn. I really like the table, and construction, but the blue fill for the river just isn't attractive, the color is nice, but the texture doesn't do it for me. The one side LED strip doesn't quite work either and as a desk table, idk if it would create contrast problems visually.

Did you have to use any special blade in your circular saw or would any blade work? Also can I use a round over bit for the front and back edges or will that crack the epoxy?
@PahjoDesigns
6 жыл бұрын
+cory barnes - I used a plywood blade with 100+ teeth. Yes, you can use a roundover bit, but you may need to sand it afterwards and brush some more resin to get rid of any scuff marks. Thanks for watching and good luck with your project!

The silicone caulk that you put down in the middle, was that just to make sure the resin releases?
@PahjoDesigns
6 жыл бұрын
chris fields - the bottom of the mold is actually 2 pieces of melamine that I glued together with CA glue and an activator. Although the seam was tight, I put a bead of silicone caulk to prevent it from leaking from the bottom. Resin also won’t stick to silicone. Thanks for watching!!!

Could you have left the bark on? I've just started on a Walnut table and in two mind's to strip the bark or leave in place ...thanks
@PahjoDesigns
6 жыл бұрын
You can certainly leave the bark if it’s stable and won’t fall or crumble. The bark on my project was very loose so i removes it. I prefer to remove it because the color of the wood where the bark was removed from darkens with resin. So, it gets the same look/effect either way. Thanks for watching!

Erik Baez - I actually recommend using stonecoat countertop products for high traffic projects. I would email them and ask about it. They are very responsive. You can use the code jeremy10 and get $10.00 off a purchase of $50.00 or more. I’m not affiliated with this company, I just like their products. They gave me that code to give to my viewers.

Where can I get the wood for the table? I live in queens new york
@PahjoDesigns
6 жыл бұрын
Bruce K - May be difficult to get sinker cypress up there because sinker cypress is a product of floating cypress logs down rivers to the New Orleans area and other southern locations. Over 20 percent of the logs sank to the bottom and retrieved many years later from the river by loggers. You may want to check with your local hardwood dealer as they may be able to get some for you.
