This is a very good explanation of LEDs and how they work. However LEDs are very uni-directional. This means they are very bright when seen directly in line. Unfortunately, as your line of sight angles away, the LED appears much dimmer. You want your flashing lights to be seen from all angles through to 90 degrees, just like a conventional bulb. Why 90? Because you want to indicate to cars approaching from all angles - that you are waiting to turn.

You don't need to use a diodes or resistors to do the conversion. All you need is a CF15 LED non-polarity flasher. It is a three prong flasher, while most Flashers for vintage bikes are two prong. The third prong goes to ground. The CF12, CF13, and CF14 will still have problems. You have to get a CF15. I got one off Amazon for $11 and my 83 Suzuki GR650 was up and running using cheap Amber 1156 LEDs I got off Amazon in a four pack for $10. Total conversion cost was $21. I also converted my instrument panel for $8 for a pack of ten 194 LED bulbs. Then added an LED headlight. I got and LED rear/break 1157 years ago when they first came out, back when they were expensive. It's still kind of dim, as it also doubles as a license plate light, so you have to use a white one in a red on top, white underneath cover. I've been searching for a dual LED (Red Beam/White on bottom) for it, but haven't found one.

Great video! Two questions come to mind. 1. What is a ballast and how does it behave? Why use a ballast, rather than just split the connection of the dash bulb off the other bulbs and give it it's own ground? 2. When a bulb is burnt out, how does the flasher know and blink faster than normal?

Hi. I have mentioned you in one of my videos I hope you don’t mind. I have also added a link to this video to explain why the bulbs all flash at once. If you object to me mentioning you I will remove it. Many thanks.

I know this is an old video, but here goes: I just tried to install led tail lights on my RV trailer. The tail lights, brakes and turn signals all work individually like they should. The trailer is fed by a 7 pin connector from the tow vehicle (2002 Chevy Express van). The one problem I have is that when the tail lights are on, the turn signals don't work on the trailer only. All the lights (incandescent) on the van work normally. Even an old (40 years in business) trailer shop said that all they could do is to try different parts to solve the problem. I can't seem to find a fix for this. I tried to hook up the led lights to my other vehicle that has a 4 pin connector and ran into that sympathy blinking issue.

Only on the 'wish list'.?! Fitting a simple miniature bridge rectifier inside, would make all these lamps useable on positive as well as negative ground.

Out of curiosity ..................... is the Dash Light the only reason you are fitting Load Resistors to this vehicle?? ........................... I would have expected Hyper Flash to be an obvious outcome from installing LED indicators

I have installed drl unit led strips with turn signal. It has 3 wires. Red, black & yellow. Red & black are connected to drl unit and works perfectly fine. If i connect the yellow cable to its individual turn signal, once the drl unit switches OFF the leds are dimly lit, lets say about 50% of each led strips are ON. If i remove the yellow cable than there's no issue. How do i resolve this?? I timed and it seemed it was ON even after a minute.

The resistors go one on each side that is changed to LED. So one end of the resistor goes in-line with the turn signal wire, the other end of the resistor goes to a ground wire. Here is a demonstration. kzitem.info/news/bejne/uK-LzmWwrXR5a2k

Don't know why you would want LED turn signals to lower current use as they rarely are on. Wire your own LED's on a pos grnd car by putting + to ground and - to power. Not all that difficult to figure out.
