This is the essence of Zeppelin. Old blues tones played in a hard rock style, much louder and heavier.

I know it's easy, what did I say? What did I say? Oooo.... God, look, it's not easy for the band to know which songs you are all going at the same time, and all the band knowing what song they were going to play. I mean just with those first lyrics the band caught on easily... And don't say that it's easy to do that. The band acted as one, and they knew each other very well. They all really listened to what Robert sang at first, all the lyrics. Bang! They went into the song...
@Robstailey

page was a master of the blues. this song and the bluesy bit from towards the end of how many more times are very similar, and you can tell both of page's solos were improvised, they used a lot of the same bits, but were arranged into completely different pieces.

I remember when I first saw this video a few years ago shortly after jonohull uploaded it and the Beatles and Zeppelin fans were fighting about who had the superior version. And look, almost four years later and the debate lives on!! Personally, I think both are awesome. They are also hard to compare because Zeppelin's version is a long, loose jam while the Beatles version is a short, tightly packed song that they blistered their way through. That's the beauty of covers.

Depends which version you prefer, Zeppelin turned this into a jam whereas The Beatles play it as a straight cover. The version The Beatles recorded has all the meat and life taken out of it compared to early live performances. The best live version The Beatles played is Long Tall Sally live Hamburg 1962. That's almost like a proto punk take on it.

Plant's vocals are definitely insane here, but I think his vocal prime was 1968. There's this bootleg from '68 going around when Plant recorded a few songs with Alexis Korner, one of which being a tune called "Operator". The notes he hits in this song are spine-chilling, really great stuff!

Change of guitars is probably due to the fact, like they say in the booklet in the DVD is that they didn't have all the video, and they were missing audio for some of it too so what we are probably seeing is really good editing and the audio switches to the audience recording so you can hear the audience singing with him or they were missing the soundboard for it.
