I don’t think jimmy played it nearly as well. That was a hell of a performance. Amazing work. Thank you.

Thank you so much. Since then, I have also gone to amp modeling in the Variax as well. Man, it makes life so easy on me and sound engineers!

@@TheDiscographers I bet it does. Been using the Helix Lt in my homestudio for years and once I have some money left over, I'll save up for one of those delicious 'JTV-59's. Wishing you a lovely day, Dominik

OMG - has Page seen this? Plant and Page in one person singing and playing simultaneously? Absolutely phenomenal. And Line 6 should be paying you to represent them if they aren't already. SUPERB vocals - SUPERB playing. Huge respect.

Thank you so much! I personally would say I pull off the Page part better than the Plant part, especially on the higher songs like the first one, but I appreciate the support I get for this so much. I never thought I'd be singing Led Zeppelin, but this bassist made me try, and I'm so glad! And yeah... a former Line 6 employee said he forwarded these videos off to them, but nothing ever came of it. And I should say that while I used real amps last year, I'm now doing modeling in the Helix as well.

@@TheDiscographers All I can say is that as soon you started singing, as a viewer I immediately relaxed and settled in knowing this was going to be a great performance - there was no fear of getting that 'cringing' feeling that things might become painful. And these are RIDICULOUSLY difficult vocal performances. But then to pull off Page's playing THAT well while also filling Plant's shoes? I've never seen anyone even attempt it. Keep contacting Line6 - this is the best example of exactly what their products were designed to do. And it's not as if anyone recognises any of the names of their signature players - so the bar to entry can't be that high.

@@peteolson6093 Thanks once again! And FYI, I call it my Jimbert Plagent impersonation. And LOL to that last bit. It doesn't seem that the new Line 6 owners are too interested in promoting Variax, anyway. It's pretty old tech now. I'm not alone as a fan of it, hoping that they stick with it and we see another generation, but I know we're a minority in the guitar world.

Nice harmonica playing! Ramble On really had a lot of tracks (see comment below). Bass player and drummer are very good. Nice keyboard “recorders” by the drummer! I came here from your post about Variax and Helix. Gotta say those sounds settings are just remarkable! I really want one bad. I had the original but when they added real pickups I had to get that. But the battery was defective and they never sent me a replacement. Customer support was shite. So I had to run the power cord and it was pretty unwieldy and I just kind stopped using it. But now I really want to give it another go.

I actually took a beginning harmonica class with the goal of When the Levee Breaks, and the instructor happened to mention that that part of Ramble On could be covered by harp. So that was handy! And yeah, it wasn't A LOT of tracks on Ramble On, only two, but using backing for the acoustic guitar part of the electric kicks in is probably the most obvious use of tracks in the show. It's just that acoustic track and the harmony part on the solo. Now when I play it live, I mix modeled acoustic with magnetic pickups in the Variax and cover it all the best I can. And yeah, Variaxes are great, but maybe touchy, and it makes me nervous to depend on this technology which isn't going to be supported forever. I had the 59 and 69s seen in the demo video and got a 59p that sits there throughout the show as a backup the week of the show. Now I have another 69s and a 69 as well to cover different styles and have lots of backup options!

Thanks! As the singer/guitarist, I'd say we could also use a singer with Robert Plant's range if we were take this on the road to bigger venues. :P We're not working with that drummer anymore, but to be fair, this video magic was made with footage from two shows and dress rehearsal. Audio is from rehearsal, so it's not full performance energy. And the sound situation wasn't great in the space.

I hear a few tracks here and there. Some background vocals, rhythm guitar parts. But very subtle. The slide solo on What Is... is great. Could have put a rhythm track there but didn’t 👍

Just adding to what I said in the other comment, yeah, I tried to keep the tracks to just what was really necessary. The Rock and Roll and Black Dog solos sounded really empty without rhythm guitar but I felt like What is... was fine without.

Haha, don't I know it. (Singer, guitarist here). I'm particularly not proud of the first song. But I just try to sing these out-of-my-range songs in my own way the best I can rather than trying to mimic Plant.

Some tracks here and there. Especially Black Dog and Kashmir. I think it’s kosher to do that because the songs were never meant to be played by just three players. That’s why I never liked LZ live. Everything sounded empty and loose. Very disappointing. But with you guys it’s like hearing the records. Jimi H was able to do his songs three piece because of the way they were written (most anyway). And of course he played rhythm and lead together like Curtis Mayfield and Clarence Carter etc. And Cream just said fuck it we’ll just do it different and jam. With Baker and Bruce they could because those guys were Jazz players and knew how to IMPROVISE.

Yeah, we cheated a bit here and there. In addition to everything you said, I feel like while the original artists can get away with playing live however they want, there's more pressure in a context like this for a cover band to do it "right" ie like the album. Plus, since we had to stay in sync with the visuals for the whole show, we had to play to a click and cues in IEM's, anyway, so whether we used tracks or not, we weren't playing free and live. And funny thing, a lot of the visuals were done to the original album tracks, so our poor drummer had to stay on time to unsteady clicks following Zepp's originals that clearly were not in steady time. The Black Dog and Kashmir animations however were new and done to our own versions in a steady click. Lastly, I didn't mind doing tracks because it was such an immersive show in the dome. While this video focuses on the band a lot, I'm sure the live audience spent a lot of their time zoning out to the visuals. They're pretty high up above us and we weren't super well lit. When we've done these songs just on a stage somewhere, we didn't do them with the click and tracks. We added a keyboardist to fill things in.
